When do school holidays end for you?

I am on several music teacher Facebook groups. It is entertaining to watch the end of the school year (most of the group is American, so any time from the end of May until the end of June) and then the beginning (from the beginning of August till the beginning of September.) I can tell that people are starting to plan for next year because I've sold several Christmas handbell arrangements from my Teachers Pay Teachers store. Always happens in July when teachers are thinking about Christmas programs. I go back Monday, Aug. 19 and kids start that Thursday. What about you, if you are a teacher or parent? Or do you live in a country where the school year is different from that?

Because our summers are so hot, schools break just before Christmas and go back around the beginning of February.

And your school year starts in February, doesn't it? Several of our staff are from Australia.

I work at the university and in school. School starts 12. August for us and 15. August for the children. Or young adults, they're 15 to 18 so they don't like being called children :-) But buying things in July is a bit unusual to me. I might find my books, I'm working 130 % this year so I do plan to do some planning the next weeks, but not buy anything til school starts. 'Cause getting paid for it afterwards take ages compared to the school paying when I get it.

Haha, working 130%, I hope they pay you 130%. Last year I worked 120% and they didn't figure it out until two months later, so I got some back pay, which was nice.

@petatonicsca Yes, I'm made sure of that! I've got 70 % one place and 60 % another, so when the paychecks come in August I have to figure out how much tax I should pay.

@Torunn I did 120% at the same school... the over bit was a few extra private flute students.

My workdays start August 5 and the kids come back August 12. We start 2 weeks earlier than the public schools here in our state.

@petatonicsca The nice thing about an early start is, barring make up days for storms or snow, we are finished before the end of May.

That seems to be about par for the course, but Japanese schools start Sept. 1 no matter what, just like we did when I was a kid.

In my country Venezuela the classes end in July, that is to say, right now they are finishing and they start in September, although it is always known here that we end up going to classes in October. This is only for primary and secondary schools, universities tend to be in activities throughout the year for those who want to take summer courses and get out faster than the semesters.

That sounds like Japanese public schools, which get 6 weeks off July 20-Sept. 1.
