From Robbie Hatley, Patsie's Son

I will start by apologizing. This is long, it is posted from Robbie, who also wants me to share it on Facebook. If admin wants me to remove it I will. Robbie answered me directly on Facebook and he said:
"There seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around. But no, my mom isn't living with me.
To do that, I'd need a single-story house with a bedroom and bathroom outfitted for my mom's needs (cost: $300,000), plus a full-time nursing staff to take care of her (cost: $150,000 per year).
But my actual situation is, I live in a tiny 1-bdrm apt, upstairs (accessible only by a steep staircase), my net worth is about $-1000 (negative one thousand dollars), and my income is about $10,000 per year, and so is my outgo.
At that rate, I'd have to work and save most of my wages for 500 years just to earn the money to pay for taking care of my mom for 5 years.
So that's not going to happen in our lifetimes.
Instead, my mom is still stuck at Seal Beach Rehab, who are only taking care of her because they're "stuck" with her, as the law forbids them from throwing her on the street (which they would do, gladly, if they could). They want $250/day ($91,000/year) to keep her there, but her SSI + SocSec only provides them $1000/month ($12,000/year), about 13% of the money they want. So from their point of view they're losing 87% of their profit for that bed, so they're pissed.
Which leaves my mom in medical limbo, because they do not appear to be taking care of her needs. I haven't seen any evidence, for example, that they've done anything about her worsening blindness and deafness, which have grown so bad that she can't see me or hear me when I visit, and indeed doesn't even know I'm there.
Now, I'm not sure if her sight and hearing problems are treatable. But no one is even trying. So until I can get someone to fund cataract surgery (which is what she needs for her eyes), she'll continue to be blind; and until I can get a doctor to look into her ears (or obtain hearing aids), she'll continue to be deaf.
So, that's the situation."
I did specifically ask if a gofundme would be useful. He has not gotten back to me on that yet. We want to be good, and kind. We do not want to cause trouble.

@AmbiePam I do not think people are trying to be ugly, but they are in other countries where the process is different. I am hoping to clarify for some. I have another post I just put up on this topic.

Many people do not know how Social Security and other helps work here in the US. No harm was meant, I am sure.

thanks fer sharin' this, makes way more sense'n what someone else's posted. my concern'd be that if'n she's no assets outside 'f her social security, medicaid should 'f been applied fer. they'd pick'p what her social security don't cover 's well 's cataract surgery if deemed 'ppropriate 's well 's hearin' aids.
i truly feel fer her, but do not trust him.

He may not know about resources and I am sure the Social Services at the Rehab is overtaxed as well. I have written a letter this morning to send to the Orange County Ombudsman to see what they can do.

I have heard of many things being helped by gofundme. I don´t know why it could not be used for hearing aids (if they would help). And we all know that cataract surgery is a fairly easy surgery. We could all pitch in, one at a time. If Hatley is in a better health situation, she might be able to live elsewhere, even if she cannot live with Robbie.

I do not know. I am waiting to hear from Robbie about a gofundme. If the money did not go to Hatley or to Robbie, but directly to a doctor it might not cost them their assistance from the state.

I am seriously worried about her after reading this post. Cataract surgery is easy when your body can co-op up with it. At age of 92 doctors will not take a risk as so many other factors will ve involved in it. I would be supporting gofundme page since that will definitely help him to atleast get a year support.
@GardenGerty I am seriously thankful to you for posting the update.

@BarBaraPrz , @DWDavis I have just written a letter to the Orange County Ombudsman for senior services. I live over a thousand miles away and so I am hoping we get someone local on the situation.

Now that is more like it. I wonder if he had contracted he lions club about her eyes, I cn`t think of the name of the people who do hearing aids, do you know if she was service related?
For those doctors and surgeries we are talking about raising thousands.

No, not service related. First of all Seal Beach has to get on board with taking her to see doctors, etc. as Robbie cannot. He has no car. Lion's Club might help. I told Robbie to look for a person called an Ombudsman. We have them in Kansas and they help residents in care homes and advocate for them.

I joined MyLot an year back and had no interaction with Patsie. But for sure I have read about her in other's posts. Seems like she was a very popular and liked one here on MyLot and many missed her once she disappeared from here due to her sickness. Sending all my prayers and wishes for her. Hope she gets the needed help soon.

It always depends on the level of care needed. They have a tiered system. If she needs lots of medical assistance it costs more.

terrible what our country has come to in the medical field . I sure do miss her she is a sweet and sensitive soul.
I think the go fund me is a great idea. It will help for a while. It pulled me out of the fire for a bit. Thinking I might have to do it again as seems once you are behind almost impossible to catch up.
I have less then nothing to contribute but would repost for them. I too saw this sad news on FB

Thank you for this update, I was sure that Patsie could not be with her son, because I knew he would not be able to keep her at home, so I do not understand how someone could have spread this news. I hope he can start a crowd funding, the owner of the site (Bugs) already informed us that he allow us to share the link. I hope we can do something.

It was a misunderstanding, out of a good heart someone who wants to help, who does not have English as her primary language. I am talking with Robbie about HOW Patsie could receive funds yet not risk her government support. That is the biggest problem.

@GardenGerty This sounds a lot better suggestion. If you find a way to finance eye surgery, I am sure you will let us know.

I heard that citizens' health is taken care of by the government. I mean cataract surgery needed by your mom will be funded by the government? I am not sure.

You have to organize priorities, the first is not the money or the cost but the state of health of your mother, so, I think gofundme has enough reputation to get those funds, for a mother the effort we make is invaluable and it doesn't matter if it is Long or not is your story and it is important for all of us.

We get in trouble when the government gets involved, but that is who provides the funds for Patsie. Her son barely survives himself.

@GardenGerty Yes friend, that problem does not distinguish races or nations, I think it is everywhere in the world, but you must go ahead with anything that has to arise for your good purpose. God never forsake.
