I just learned some sad news.

A while ago, my best friend Dixie called me to tell me that one of her daughters had just filed for divorce.
Of her 4 children this is the third that has a rather complicated love life. I am sorry because they have a young child (7 years old) and it will be difficult for him in every way. Dixie will not be able to help her grandson much because she works and has no maid and does not want to hire one.
It is harder that it once was for a couple to stay together. Both of the spouses want to have success in their accomplishments and family life means a sacrifice that is difficult to assume.
Yet, it is the children who have problems later on, specially if the parents part while they are very young. And it is not an option either to stay together if they don´t want to. Children sense it and it is just as bad.
I cannot say I never fought with my husband. But on the whole, we learned to get along and we had the respect and patience with each other to do so.
Now both members of a marriage must work to make ends meet. The world is quite different than what it was when I was young.
I just want everything to be for the best for both of them. I love them and I specially love their child as I consider him one of my grandsons.

Divorce is always bad but an unhealthy relationship is equally lethal

I know. I always say that people now file for divorce if their partner leaves the toothpaste with the lid off. I should have gotten a divorce a thousand times for all the times I had to place the toilet paper roll where it belonged.

@LadyDuck I am sure that my very good husband should have been thrown out of the house several times then.
. I remember having those garbage fights once in a while. Another thing he forgot often was to buy fresh bread. I learned to freeze some

@marguicha Yes, this happens. I remember a case of a French couple, she filed for divorce because she did not bring the garbage out. She said she would have kept the dog and left the toddler to him.

I don´t yet know what really happened here as Dixie did not have time to tell me. They are both hardworking people and they love their child.

Something is really wrong in the way things are these days. Wages should be enough to sustain single income family so the couple can alternate regarding careers and home and child care. The housing in some countries are too expensive.

Yes. But also, now every couple want to have every gadget in the world and new houses and furniture. My own grandchildren have lots of toys, tablets and cellphones. That cannot be had if only one spouse works.

I think that many young people get married for the wrong reasons.

Divorced happen and they happen for many reason. Some have to do with an absent partner, some becuae entourage want different things, some times you think your with the right person and your not.
My husband came from a parents divorced and remarried so he learned a lot what not do do. Suck as cheat on your wife and never be around for your kids.
Some times in marriages things just can’t be worked out. Some times the end is better and for some it’s better for the kids they don’t see if at the time but later when things become normal they see it was for the best.

So sorry to hear this. I cannot understand why it happens and it is always the children that have it the hardest. I was with my husband for 20 years and I have to say thank you for those years until he passed away.

It seems that more people get divorces after they get married than when I was young.
