Summertime Treats: Fresh Fruits

Summer months are also the time of the year when lots of fruits are ripening. Freshly picked fruit is the perfect summertime treat. I remember waiting for the plums on our trees to ripen. I also loved green plums so picking plums came early. When they went from green to light greenish-yellow, that was the prime time for pulling them and eating them. Peaches are also ripening toward the end of the summer, blueberries, cherries, bananas, blackberries, muscadines, etc. This is a perfect snack for the kids. It's healthy and packed with vitamins. Our spring here in the south starts with strawberries all ripening at the end of March and throughout the month of April. What fruits do you have in your area that ripen in the summer? What is your favorite? Photo: Pixaby, public domain

I should try to grow some strawberries but they are early crops here. And I don't do cold weather when the plants would need to be started. lol

Peaches seem to be the big fruit here that become abundant in the summer. Of course all melons are readily available too. I love pretty much any fruit especially in the summer

What state are you in? We used to have a truck from AL come in every year at work with fresh peaches. They were the best.

We don't have any near us, but I know a lot of people have orange and lemon trees and I remember this person across the street had a tree that produced the biggest lemons they were massive and amazing. I love all fruits, it is so hard to pick a favorite, we have bananas a lot and I really like those.

@kareng We tried to have an orange tree, but it wouldn't grow. It produced one orange and then it started growing a weird tall weed that we had no idea what it was.

I just had a bag of fresh figs in the refrigerator and didn't even think to add them. Duh. Or watermelons, a favorite of mine, as well.
