National Lighthouse Day National Sea Serpent Day 1927 - The Peace Bridge opens between Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo, New York. There is a sidewalk that goes across the bridge; and there is a spot in which you can take a picture with one foot in Canada and one in New York, U.S.A. Of course I had to do that. No, I'm not going to dig the picture out. It was 50 some years ago! 1974 - Philippe Petit performs a high wire act between the twin towers of the World Trade Center 1,368 feet in the air. 1876 - Mata Hari (Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod) was born. She was a Dutch exotic dancer and spy. She was convicted of being a spy for Germany in World War I and executed by firing squad in France in 1917. 1960 - David Duchovny was born. He is an American actor, director, producer and screenwriter. He played FBI agent Fox Mulder on The X-Files and writer Hank Moody in Californication. 1975 - Charlize Theron was born. She is a South African-American actress and producer. Some of her movies: Devil's Advocate, Mighty Joe Young, The Cider House Rules, Monster, North Country, Atomic Blonde, Young Adult and Tully.
