Playing with my food

Playing with my food, or experimenting in the kitchen. A few days ago I read about making pumpkin seed butter. Pumpkin seeds and other nuts and seeds are supposed to be good for you, but since I had a lot of dental work done, I do not chew them as well as I would like. So I have not been enjoying them. I have boxes and containers of them in a couple of places, including in my freezer. I like to have them on hand for granola. I also discovered in my stash of oils some toasted peanut oil. It was yummy in my stir fry the other night, so I used it in my pumpkin seed butter. I used my small cannister from my ninja blender. The results were not as smooth as commercial seed butter, but they were tasty. I tried it on some of my "sandwich slims" as a bed time snack. I like to hear about your experiments as well.

It tasted really good. I added some parmesan cheese to some of it and that was nice and savory.

I just made red plums jelly to spread on toasted bread. I have not even tasted, it is in the jars cooling down.

@LadyDuck It has been a long time since I have made jellies and jams, other than apple butter last year. I remember my mother making lots of them, and grandmother as well.

I can tell you I haven't been experimenting lately. I don't eat many nuts, but eating a lot of fruit lately.

@GardenGerty I love it, I have to buy just what I eat, or it will go bad fast.

I am doing a low fat eating thing for a while, I have not had time to play in the kitchen but I have been with the herbs and wild plants, what is the salve you sent me CPL?

CPL is calendula and plantain infused into olive oil. I infuse them separately and then blend. Lavender essential oil.Vitamin E oil for preservative. Beeswax to make it thick. Use it like other people use antibiotic ointment. It is really good on burns. When I get a burn and use it I do not get blisters and the pain goes away pretty quickly.

@andriaperry I forgot to send the list I printed out, but thought I messaged it to you privately here. I could have messed up, though.

That is a good talent. I'm really bad at experimenting with food.

@GardenGerty but I lack all the interest in cooking. I do just the minimal that is required

Pumpkin seeds are a good source of some nutrients. I am supposed to eat protein snacks and this was a good change of pace.

I Have toasted and blended some seeds to make different sorts of hummus. Most of them have turned out amazing.
