Had to pay $8 (+tax) for a cappuccino

Hubby and I went to the Queen + Adam Lambert concert last night at MSG. I wanted to go to dinner before that. Since it was restaurant week still in NYC I decided to go to one of the participating restaurants where you pay $42 (+ tax & tip) for a three course meal - appetizer, main course, and dessert. Drinks and coffee/tea are extra. I chose Charlie Palmer Steak.
On top of the three courses we ordered a $50 bottle of Pinot Noir wine, which was actually more expensive but was reduced for restaurant week. I would have been okay with just a glass of wine ($18), which is not cheap either, but hubby wanted a bottle.
We also got a cappuccino and a double-espresso, which we didn't know the prices of till we got the bill. My cappuccino turned out to be $8 and hubby's double-espresso $8.50, which made my jaw drop. Never in my life had I spent that much on a coffee beverage and would not have done it this time had I known how much it would cost.
The total bill (w/o tip) came to about $163. With tip add on around $30 and it's almost a $200 dinner. That is a lot of money to spend on one meal. Did not expect to spend that much. Of course, had we eaten the same thing from a regular menu it would have cost us much more.
As it turned out, which I didn't know beforehand, was that this was a $$$$ restaurant. It's not surprising then that our coffee beverages cost as much as they did. Still, there was nothing special about them that they had to cost that much.
The food was delicious, the service was great, the place itself was nice and the dinner very enjoyable. Still, it's a lot of money to spend on dinner and can't be done often.

Going into NYC is expensive...or is it Manhattan? Either way, it's prohibitively expensive. You probably would have spent another $100 at least without the special. At least you enjoyed it!

Well, Manhattan is NYC. I am not sure how much we'd have spent without the restaurant week menu because it all depends on what we would have ordered. But most likely would have been much more.

But you know it's great that once in a while you get to dine out at $$$$ restaurant and not spend a fortune.

It was. I had no idea it was $$$$ until I yelped it afterwards.

It is not very often we spend that much on dining. Usually it is around $100 give or take. Can be less or slightly more.

The concert was awesome! Not everything is super expensive in Manhattan. Depends where you go and what you order. Like you can go to a reasonably priced place and still walk out with a huge bill if you order a lot of drinks and more pricier items.
