Thinking About Patsie Hatley

I am awake early today and cannot sleep. Last week sometime I looked up the address for the ombudsman services in the area where Patsie Hatley lives. Just now I wrote a letter to the ombudsman. The function of this VOLUNTEER office is to advocate for seniors in their area. I asked that they respond to my questions even if it is only to say they cannot help. FYI these are the questions I asked: Will Medicare pay for these needs? Can she get help from other agencies, like The Lions Club? Why is she not being taken to appointments to learn about options? If a fund raiser is done, how can it be managed so it does not negatively impact her funds? (I wondered if you could administer something like this?) IF/WHEN I hear back, I will post it here. You are welcome to share this post with other interested parties. I will even tell Robbie Hatley that I sent an inquiry. I live well over a thousand miles from where she is and cannot just go check on her myself. Hopefully this is the next best thing. Attention: myLotBugs

I do feel so sorry for Patsie and what most people don`t understand is that this is how our old people are treated. I think some feel like they have had their long life and they need to live theirs, so children "forget" about it and think they are being taken care of, when they aren`t. Out of the blue Robbie comment on one of those facebook thingies, he believes in nothing and is full of himself. I would not ask him to do anything for his mother, I am sure he will find an excuse not to. Maybe, just maybe, this place will check into it to see if there is neglect.

@CookieMonster46 @andriaperry I have to mentally offer grace to him because I am not living his life. I have a few people in my life who do not believe in anything and that has got to be awful. I have lived in southern California and it is a mess to try to get around. Especially if you do not have a car. I knew that Kansas has ombudsmen, and took a chance and found that California has one for each county. Now if they are not just overworked and can look into things I would be grateful. I explained in my letter how I know Patsie and even sent a link to her profile. How we provide for our elderly stinks. I figure that this is the time I use the little bit of knowledge I have about the system to try to get some action.

I agree with what you say , I see it with my neighbor, her 3 grown children, hard come, 2 live very close by like two blocks away, but they have their own life going. When they come, it is less than 2 minutes. Several of the neighbors have told the daughters, that you mom needs help . Her home is looking bad, weeds, too tall, bushes. My very good neighbor, went and cut everything down for her, we send her food when she needs it. So yes, I think most of the older people are just on their own, thank goodness for caring friends, and neighbors.

They can at least write back and say that they cannot do anything without giving me any information.

She is a wonderful person and a very friendly person. There is a post about what happened to her. And I am very saddened.

@GardenGerty I wish I could. But I am in financial straights right now so giving to anything for me is not an option. I think she is on the west coast. I am on the east coast. Look, if I ever come into a windfall I will do what I can. Until then I will keep her in my mind and my heart. It does hurt to hear things like this about people you really like.

That would really be nice. I would at least like to know she is checked on and all resources have been checked into.

Thank you for taking the time to contact that organisation. I had no idea to whom address similar questions. If they have a site, consider sending also an email.

It is very little trouble. I may re check for an e mail. I felt like a written letter might be harder to ignore.

@GardenGerty I noticed that in our days our public offices read the emails but sometimes ignore the letters.

i confess to not knowin' 'bout these obudsman services. we've'n agency fer the elderly 'n my nearby town, but 'tis government run. so very glad ya thought 'f such. 've read through the other responses/comments 'n 'gree - a hand-written letter tends to get much further'n emails. such's e'en so with my 'campaigns' with elected officials. did'ja give 'em yer phone number, hon? 'n case they've more inquiries ya might be able to help 'em with? folks like yerself gimme faith'n humanity 'n i thank ya fer that ~ wishin' good news 'bout ms. patsie 'n her care.

That was a good idea to tag bugs. At first I wondered why and then remembered he was concerned about her some time back too. I've heard that word before but hasn't any clue what it was: ombudsman. That was a good idea and I hope they reply with ideas and not just a down letter. In our city we have a senior services organization and they provide a lot of ways to help the elderly like even drivers for appts and such.

An ombudsman in this case is usually a volunteer who keeps eyes and ears open for seniors who need help or agencies that need to provide more.
