We are out on the edge of West Australia’s wheat-belt area. Crops here are short and look badly in need of rain. We are at a caravan park in Beacon which is a very small town but with a lot going for it. Sometimes it seems the smaller the town the more resilient and close-knit the community. When you book in to the park, you are given a $10 voucher which you can spend at a number of businesses within the greater area. The ablutions block is spotless with free dryer in the laundry and big shower units so clothes don’t get damp while you’re showering. That is always one of the bugbears in parks. We parked the van then unhitched and drove out to Beringbooding Rock. This is the largest rock water catchment tank in Australia. It was built in 1937 using ‘sustenance labour’ and holds 10.23 million litres. ‘Sustenance labour’ involved employing men on government jobs when there was no work available after World War I. It was virtually working for benefits. One of its features is the balancing boulder which I’m holding up in the photo. Low rock walls have been built all over the rock to channel the water into a huge tank. Farmers can still access water from the tank if they needs to. I’ll put up more photos in other posts. We also passed an ‘Elsewhere Road’.

That is a really big rock. I didn't stay there for long. You never know when one day it will tumble down the side.

@MarshaMusselman MrsJ regularly forgets about my existence. So far she's forgotten to put me away since returning from her most recent trip. I'm not sure how long I'll get away with being out and about in the house though...

@JudyEv The way the rocks are position seems like there are few tremors that happens in that place. If the seismic activity is present in that place those rocks would be able to stay that way.

@rebelann I guess it's just the stones underneath that are acting like chocks. One day the effort will get too much and it will tumble down the side. It will take out the stone wall with it when it does.

small towns/communities 're most 'lways more gracious when folks come to town. superb they'd laundry services 't the park 's well 's big showers. 'd to take a shower'n the hubs camper sunday 'n 'twas 'xtremely claustrophobic. didn't help he'd not figured the hot water system'n my 3 minute shower 'twas more'n a tad'n the chilly side, lol. that's most fascinatin' they constructed all that. sounds like here'n the u.s. 'fter the war, so many without jobs. the labor fer parks 'n roads most intensive, but folks were sure 'ppreciative to've somethin'. dang, that's a whole lot'ta water! i take 't the farmers 're not utilizin' such, since the wheat 'tis doin' poorly. hope they don't do's they tend to 'round these parts - pour the water to 't when 'tis too late, jest to show the government they "tried" so's they can get a freebie check. did'ja notice that boulder yer bravely holdin' 'nto place looks eerily kin to part 'f a skull?? 'tis a fabulous shot :) oh, what sort'a rock 'd that be? looks to've quite a bit 'f iron perhaps? i so love that'cha let's go'n these journeys with y'all, hon. thanks fer that! save travels ~

It's lovely for me to be able to share my photos and memories too. Here is the back part of the rock. They are granite but I'm sure there is a lot of iron in the rock. Iron ore is mined up this way.
