Any bets on how much money I'll come home with tonight? (Rock star drama)

I am back from Montana and will have my first practice in several weeks with the rock 'n roll band I'm in tonight. As I've mentioned in previous posts, the lead singer and "band leader" is a little shady, and sometimes pockets part of what we're paid, as well as the tip money we make. Two gigs ago, *I* counted the tip money before giving it to him, so he couldn't just say, "Eh, it was nothing." (It was about $75 that night.) Three gigs ago, he had pocketed the tip money and and told me that the tips were "not enough to worry about." I am due $37.50 from our last gig (we were paid only $150, but the gig was fun) plus tips. But I forgot to count the tips that night before he got a hold of them. Any bets on how much I'll bring home tonight? Will he "forget" to being cash? Will we (there are four of us) get exactly $37.50 each (I'd better bring some quarters), with the tip money being "not enough not enough to worry about"? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think you should all talk to this guy and say where's our money.

Only the drummer's wife seems (along with me) to have recognized his shadiness.

@CarolDM Thanks. I'm sure I'll have comments on what happens. Hey, maybe he'll give us all $50 and some sincere thanks tonight. One never knows.

Precognition isn't one of my talents. Now that I think about it. The collection of "career" Lego minifigures that MrsJ bought for her daughters several years ago (they were forever fighting over the girl minifigures in the family Lego stash) didn't contain a fortune teller mini figure. I think MrsJ got gypped.

@SophiaMorros Right now he's singing "...if I only had a hand..." I didn't know he'd watched Wizard of Oz.

Keep your eyes on the tip jar and don't forget to demand your $37.50

It is time to get him to start paying up. He will keep the money again if he can.

@TheHorse I dont think some people have any empathy at all. Thus they cant imagine how it feels to be cheated.

@wolfgirl569 His daughter is autistic, and they say that autistic people have a difficult time "seeing another's perspective." But she's actually a "nice" person. I wonder if he's on the spectrum, just a touch.

Why don't you discuss this openly? Count the money **together** at the end of the session and then divide it.

The other band mates seem to be "under his spell" and I don't want to be an agitator. I don't think he likes me (I am quite good and am in several bands), and I don't want to get fired until I have another rock "gig" lined up. I really enjoy playing rock bass.

@TheHorse You reminded me of Celine Dion who said that she enjoyed singing so much that she would sing even if she didn't make any money. Of course, she made plenty! I hope the same happens to you!

What a shyster. I wonder if he knows you KNOW what the tips are? I'll bet he'll pocket the tips again. I mean, when it comes to music and musicians...we generally play the same notes.

It's odd. Someone came up to me after a recent gig, talking about what a great guy he is. I think he does careful "impression management," and a lot of people don't know what he really does.

@TheHorse It would seem so. I guess if you consider the fun factor over the money factor, maybe you are okay with it? But I think I would have to shake him down at some point.

A local band here changed tipping into a locked box and the owner of where they are playing divides it up because of a problem like this. The box is glass and we like to try and fill it up.
