A million miles? And for what?

The song My Mammy, by Al Jolson, contains the lines "I'd walk a million miles for one of your smiles". This got me thinking.
Just how long would it take to walk a million miles?
Let's assume a constant walking speed of four miles an hour - which is quite a good pace given that it does not allow for stopping for trivial purposes such as eating, sleeping or obeying the calls of nature. That means that you would walk non-stop for 250,000 hours.
That is 10,417 days, given a few minutes either way. Not allowing for leap years, that is 28 and a half years of doing nothing but walk.
And all you get at the end is a smile? The least I'd expect would be a cup of tea!

@indexer And then there’s a much less extravagant claim expressed by (among many others) the Proclaimers, who limit themselves rather lamely to “But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles To fall down at your door”. Just a small stroll compared to Jolson’s marathon.

My grandfather worked at a restaurant where Al Jolson and Eddie Cantor occasionally performed. One night he woke my father up and took him to the restaurant. My father was quite young at the time. Al Jolson sat him on his lap and sang "Sonny Boy" to him. After that the rest of his family called him by the nickname Sonny.
