A delicious fish fry for two

My husband fried some white perch and catfish for dinner this afternoon. I stewed the potatoes and onions, fried the corn bread and made the sweet tea. It was really good, but the fish from our pond is much better. He had to buy these at a fish market. I hope we can get some from the pond for our next fish fry. Now he's napping and I'm myLotting. And when he gets up, I have a mess to clean up in the kitchen. How can so much corn meal and oil get all over counter tops, the range, and the floor? We're having some thunderstorms and rain right now...how's your day been? Do you ever fry fish?

It usually is worth the 45 minutes or so to clean the stove top, burners, counters, sweep and mop the floor, and load the dishwasher. But better when the fish are fresh.

My husband will eat fish occasionally; but it's very rare that I will indulge. I'll bet fish from your pond do taste a whole lot different than fish from a store. My day's been OK.

@1creekgirl No. I've had a deep fried fresh perch sandwich, I've eaten fish sticks and canned tuna and tasted salmon (didn't like it)...but I will eat scallops, crab and lobster...and clam strips.

I usually prefer to bake my fish but have also enjoyed it fried when at a restaurant. Catfish is a tasty catch. Watch out for the small bones

My husband always fillets cat fish so I don't have to worry about the bones. Have you eaten herring? They have more tiny bones than any fish I know of, so we fry it very hard, then you can eat the fish, bones and all.

@1creekgirl No, never tried herring. Just when I get the chance I'll see if I like it.

Ah the catfish, cornbread, and sweet tea sounds delicious. Reminiscent of the down home country cooking of my Alabama family. Sorry to hear about the kitchen mess and the weather.

@1creekgirl When I was young, my great grandpa Lowell had a catfish farm. I remember my great aunt preparing catfish @ a family reunion, but that was ages ago. I rarely eat it now, but I would if I knew plenty of places to get it where I live.

I would sure love to have some of your hushpuppies. My husband used to make good ones, but can't now with the gluten thing. Have you found a good recipe that you're able to eat now?

@1creekgirl You know? I never cook fish other than sometimes a darne of salmon. I only ever eat fish out, and my current favourite is sea bass. There is a restaurant here that serves up the most exquisite tandoori sea bass. Next week when I'm on holiday on the west coast I'm going to be eating squid and salmon and trout.

Never had squid and I like salmon and trout, but you just can't beat a fresh, pond raised fried catfish. Hope your holiday will be great.

We use to fry a lot of food but now we prefer to broil our fish with a little butter salt and pepper. It tastes better. Your dinner sounds good. Hope you will catch some because when you catch it it always does taste better

Fresh is always good. Broiling really is healthier than frying.

fish fry sounds yummy, along with sweet tea. I don't like catfish though. I like carps. Do you grow carps in your pond?

No, I would rather go out and eat fish. But I don't have fish mind, that would make a difference. A light rain falling here.
