Ooh, Look! A Waterfall! (Part 2)

Because of the fact that I don’t have a passport I had to be “content” to see Niagara Falls from the US side.
That’s fine with me.
Niagara Falls State Park is the oldest state park in the United States, becoming the first park so designated in 1885. Smart move on New York’s part.
The view may not be as “panoramic,” but you have many different opportunities to get “up close and personal” in the park. That includes being at the literal edge of all three waterfalls, being able to view the “American rapids” from multiple locations, and even venturing out onto Three Sisters Island for stunning views of the Niagara River.
I visited the park in 1997 with my dear mother of blessed memory. Given her health there were things we couldn’t do. I walked a good deal of the park (my phone pedometer says about six miles), seeing the islands, walking the pedestrian bridge to the far side of the American Falls, and a stroll along the river, listening to the nonstop roar of the water.
I also had dinner at the Top of the Falls restaurant. It’s in a state park next to a natural wonder, so the prices are what you’d expect (high). The view of the Horseshoe Falls while dining was worth every penny, too!
Admission is free, but it costs $10 for parking. That’s a good bargain, considering what some lots in town (not so close to the falls) charge. And one look makes it worthwhile.

You have just inspired me to travel the NY Thruway to visit the site of my parents honeymoon. They visited Niagara Falls after they got married following WW II.

Don’t give me any credit. Look at that sunset! The American Falls and the Horseshoe Falls in the background!! I think God’s beauty speaks for itself!
Oh, and the Maid of the Mist (IMO best tourist attraction at the Falls)!!!

@FourWalls Nature provides us with wonderful colors. It is an art all it's own. All we have to do is open our eyes, look and receive it...

They say the Canadian side is where you can view the falls better than on the US side. I never had the chance to visit it since I too doesn’t have the visa to go to Canada. It was just crossing a bridge to transfer to the other side of the river.

You can see all three falls from the Canadian side, and the light show is based in Canada so it’s better suited for the Canadian viewers. The only waterfall you can get close to, however, is the Horseshoe Falls.

@FourWalls yeah saw that one too but since I visited it spring time we were not able to come closer since there were still ice there which made it dangerously slippery. We also waited for the light show but I think you’re right about it the view is better watched on the Canadian side.

Just think about how the falls were even mightier over 100 years ago.

There’s a statue of Tesla (the man, not the band or the car) near the Bridal Veil Falls, which shows how the progress of harnessing the falls for electricity has minimized the flow. They’re still mighty impressive!

I have a friend that offered to put me in a barrel over the falls once.
It is a great place to visit and wander!
