Being multilingual online

English has been the de facto standard when it comes to international communication such that a standard keyboard comes in English. As per my knowledge, there are bilingual keyboards which can input letters from two different languages where one of them is the default, English. As many mylotters have native tongues other than English, I would like to know if they have used such a keyboard to communicate through their local languages online and what has been their experience. The problem gets mitigated to a great extent if you use a smartphone, as there is no physical keyboard only a virtual one which can be configured to input in your chosen language, but there are other issues. The keyboards of our computer and laptop are bilingual. We have the English consonants and vowels and the German vowels which we called Umlaut like öäü and the sharp (S) ß as well.

Are they from HP? Just guessing as it is a German company. German alphabets are more or less the same except those you mentioned.

Okay... If you don't have to input in any local language there is no need to bother.

@Sojourn The alphabet is identical for all Western languages, but German, Italian, French and Spanish (all languages that I know and I use) have many different accents.

Never seen one such kind of keyboard. Maybe we can use our language but there should be translation.

I can't comment on this. I have wondered about it too. English does seem to be the 'norm' in many instances.

Keyboards that are in English are missing some signs that could be used for other langugessuch as french, the accent mark is not on my keyboard or cell phone!! Keyboards of different languages, symbols and letters should be available in local stores!!

Accent marks are present in all other European languages I think except English, that is a problem.
