Does your city, state, or region have a “State Fair” or something similar? We are working on day 7 of the Minnesota State Fair here in Minnesota of the United States. Supposedly our fair is one of the best in the country, but that’s just what i am told. The fair basically is a place where you pay $12 to get in, and then can roam the grounds. There are a gazillion vendors for food and drink, beers, merchandise, amusement park-style rides, petting zoos, concerts, etc. maybe this goes for most fairs, but our MN Fair unleashed NEW fried food items each year that some people - who are really into it- clamber to try. A few years back it was fried bacon on a stick (ew). But they have some pretty imaginative ideas.
I read online last week that during the first 3 days, over 150,000 visitors to our fair. Personally, that does not in any way motivate me to go this year. Too many crowds, too many people! And it also makes work extremely busier than normal.
I am going to a renasaiance fair, a little less busy fair that is medevil themed down in a suburb on Sunday. Same kind of idea, but they have some fun shows, shops and it seems more interesting.
Do you have fairs like this around where you are? And do you attend?

I live in Kentucky, and I can vouch for the fact that our state fair is a mediocre state fair. It just concluded last Sunday. It runs for 11 days, usually starting the day after most of the Kentucky school systems go back to school.
Andrew Zimmern had an episode of Bizarre Foods at the Minnesota State Fair, and he talked about how massive the fair is. (Nothing like the Kentucky State Fair.) I think the biggest one that I know of is the Texas State Fair, which runs for six weeks.

CT doesn't have a state fair but we do have lots of local fairs. Our town has one in October every year.

@maezee I haven't in years, parking is a nightmare and you have to be bussed to the fair.

Wow, that does sound like a great fair! We have a big one happening this week in the big town 45 miles away....but I don't think it's that popular!

Yes they have a fair here but I have not been in years. I do not eat the food at those places, I am picky about eating at those places, so many nasty people.
