I said the last post about the Bordeaux turtles had been written but I was telling fibs. More information has come to hand.
Thanks to Anna (@LadyDuck), an answer has been found to the vexed question of ‘why were turtles chosen to celebrate the wines of Bordeaux’. Not content with searching websites in English, Anna searched in other languages and eventually found some information on a French website about turtle superstitions and legends.
I will quote from Anna’s comment: "During a visit to a French wine region, King Louis XIV noticed the curved position of winegrowers working in the vineyards. The position only revealed their backs, like turtles. The region was attached to the kingdom, the carapace symbolizes royal protection."
I think we all wondered what the connection was between wine and turtles. Thanks to Anna, now we all know.

Your posts are really interesting and arouse a lot of curiosity. I have missed the last one and Anna's comment on that. Will try to visit it. Right now need to clear notifications. They have been waiting since a long.
