Diary 27th To 30th August 2019

Tuesday 27th August was a day for a rare job interview for me, though not a successful one. I was to a ‘research’ company for an interview after they saw my CV on the internet and a brief phone interview. They seemed nice people though despite their repeated assurances about how much fun they have and it always being a laugh there the staff looked deeply unhappy. ‘Research’ proved to be the first of three moves in a sales pitch. I would have been hired for lead generation work by asking customers by phone if they needed home improvements such as new windows, etc. They would then send in a second seller who would arrange a third trader to go in to actually sign them into a deal. Any commission I made would depend not just on getting a foot in the door for the other sales reps but also on them successfully clinching a contract deal. I might generate the lead every fifteen minute expected of me (which is a lot to expect in itself) but if these did not get a sale later, they would be discounted and I could still fail to earn for being under-target. Sensing my unhappiness with the whole set up, the interviewer told me they would not be taking me on, and later e-mailed me confirmation that my application was not successful, which I am frankly happy about. Wednesday was a day in, catching up on paperwork. Thursday was a writing day with some more job searching and a little shopping. I also received and completed the lengthy application form for Xmas work with the post office, though I won’t hear more on that until later in September. Friday 30th August 2019, I was paid my welfare income for August and I called round to the community centre to use their computers and print out evidence of my job searches ready for my meetings with my welfare advisor on Tuesday. That sort of job is hellish to do. I know people who've tried similar, not necessarily in double glazing, and typically not lasted the week.

@arthurchappell It only suits a tiny minority of people and employers know that.

I am sure he was relieved that your application was not accepted. I hope the post office will call you for Christmas.

You certainly wouldn't want a job like that - people that phone me with that sort of thing get short shrift from me.

Oh yes, there are things that failure is the best thing that has happened to us, maybe life has something better for you and then you can't take care of other things of less validity, because you must be prepared for what corresponds to you, something big ! Greetings.
