It's a baby boy...we need to call off the celebration tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a big festival in India especially in few states like Karnataka and Maharashtra. It is Ganesh Chaturathi and is celebrated with all zeal here. We have a holday for the same tomorrow. Well, Ganesha or Ganpati has an elephant head and that makes him fascinating for children. My younger daughter loves Ganesha and is always excited about this festival. We were all set to go out and buy the stuffs for tomorrow. We planned to get some clay to make Ganesha idol and things for a small religious ceremony at home tomorrow morning. After that we had plan to go out and join the community celebration in our complex for the same. So as we were heading for market, we got a call. My husband's nephew ( his brother's son) has been blessed with a baby boy. The baby arrived a week earlier than the expected day. So this good news excited all of us. But that meant that we have to cancel all the celebrations. When there is a birth or death in family, we have no religious rituals and celebrations for few days till they say the purification takes place. This nephew stays in our city but his wife went last month to her parent's house for delivery and she should be back after a month. So I have to wait for a month to hold this new bundle of joy in the family. My daughters are excited for the new born as they will be officially aunts and I am a grandaunt.. They are busy finding a good name to call the baby So this calls off the the plans for tomorrow but we will definitely attend the community service. How is it at your end? Thanks for dropping in . Enjoy mylotting

Thank You. Yes the girls are excited to become aunts ( bua) in their teens.Even we are promoted to grand uncle and aunts. That's a benefit of big families. You don't have to have greay hair to enjoy grandparenting. It will be a wait for another month or more before he arrives here. So till then we are enjoying his pictures.

@arunima25 You are welcome and thank you for explaining that to me. On the day we get married here in Israel the bride is not suppose to see the groom till the wedding. That is how the Orthodox Jews do it.

I felt a little bad for that. It has been first time in last four years that Bappa did not visit home. In 2014 we could not do it as father in law passed away. I have done it every year from the time my elder one was a toddler. This time I am all excited but still miss Ganpati at home and all preparations that keeps me on toes for few days. Especially cooking prasad and modak.
