I wrote recently about the white butterfly bush in Dustin's garden. It continues to bloom into September. I also mentioned the black knight butterfly bush I have in the garden. A few of you asked to see a photo of that one as well.
Snapped this photo with a black swallowtail butterfly on one of the blooms. The blooms are actually a dark purple. The sunshine makes them look brighter than they actually are. But still a beautiful bush and I cannot wait to see how much it grows next year.
This was just planted in April of this year. The first bloom appeared in June. I was so excited. A great addition to Dustin's garden.
I hope my plant will look like the one in the link below real soon!

give 't a couple years 'n yers's gonna be e'en more gorgeous, ms. carol. dang if'n ya aint jest great 't gettin' the flowers 'n the butterflies focused so well. the near constant winds don't help, swishin' flowers all o'er.
i'm seriously thinkin' 'f gettin' 't least 7 'f these 'n plantin' 'em out'n front with some other perennials. once the hubs gets his vinca minor gone. used to've beautiful shasta daisies, lavenders 'n many others planted. he insisted his vine'd do no harm. uhm, wrong 'gain!
do y'ave a snowball bush? used to've a monster'un out front. 'twas gorgeous 'n a favorite place fer a hummer to nest 'n raise her young. aint seen none 'rund these parts fer sale fer years?? sadly mine perished. not certain if'n such 'twas the drought 'r age :(
here plants that'd be fragrant can 'nly be 'njoyed fer such'n the early morn 'r 'fter dark. such seems to evaporate from the dry heat. these do make great cut flowers, too.

@CarolDM they're usually good 'bout bloomin' quite well their 1st year. one 'f the reasons they'd be so popular - prolific bloomers 'n lil maintenance :) oh, i bet those're gorgeous! 're they tree 'r shrub size? oddly, we can't seem to get any 'round these parts that're the trees. reckon i'll need to order me some one day.
if'n yer neighbors 've snowball bushes, ya can get a cuttin' 'r e'en root a limb off the mother plant'n a pot. the blooms 're massive! i miss ours greatly. aint seen many 'round town either, 'r i'd sure pay 'em fer a couple 'f cuttings, lol.

I hope so. I am excited to get blooms the first year it was planted. I also planted 3 crepe myrtles in the front and they are all full of crimson red blooms. They get the morning sunshine and are doing good. No snowball bush but all of my neighbors have them and they are gorgeous. Huge blooms!

@crazyhorseladycx These are shrubs. I would like a tree but I don't think these will get taller than five feet or so, which is really big enough since they are in the garden. Yes, my neighbor has offered cuttings of her snowball trees, the blooms are so big and pretty.
