How can people that have to drive still drink a lot?

We went to hubby's friend's birthday celebration yesterday. All the food was way over salted or had too much balsamic vinegar. The only thing I enjoyed was the fruit punch. Even the coffee was bad. His friend asked me if I wanted some wine and I said okay. I wouldn't mind a glass of red wine. Of course, his wife screwed up and got porto wine, which is a dessert wine. It was way too sweet and I could not drink it. I guess she is not much of a wine drinker because she picked it out. The guys were drinking Scotch Whiskey. But instead of sipping it they were taking shots and lots of them. That made me upset because hubby would be driving us home. But I guess he didn't care because he kept taking shots. What really pissed me off though was that towards the end, when his friend wanted to pour hubby a shot and hubby said no he poured it anyway. And of course hubby downed it. And it happened more than a few times. Even when we are about to leave his friend wanted to pour him one - a last shot he called it. Hubby said no and yet he still kept asking him if he can pour him one even though he kept declining. He even asked me for permission to pour him a last shot and kept asking me, even though I said no every time. WTF! What kind of friend is that, that keeps pouring someone a shot knowing that the person has to drive?

That would have been annoying. Drinking and driving is never a good idea.

And it's not even about whether you feel drunk or not. If you get pulled over you are screwed.

When people are drunk they don’t think. But also your husband after he turned him down choice to drink more on his own. He could have just set it down and not drink at all. So they are both to blame they both made choices. Both there choices not the right one which happens when your drinking a lot and drinking it fast. You don’t think you just kind of act and do.

@lovebuglena good thing you where there with him. So you could drive. Both me and my husband don’t drink much so we don’t drink out much if one of us does the other always drives then.

@lovebuglena well I guess next time you’ll have to remind him to drink only 1 or two depending on how long your staying so this way he has time to metabolize it and drink lots of water afterwards

@ShyBear88 I don't drive. He is the only driver. And knowing he has to drive he takes more than a few shots all the time.

Wow! I am sorry that you had a bad time. Sounds like your hubbys friend had too many shots. No one should drink and drive ever!

In my country a few years ago they set a very strict law about not drinking if you drove. The fines are so high that people prefer to go in taxis to parties.

There are people who just don't care and drink a lot knowing they have to drive later. Very irresponsible! And the consequences can be severe.

If you plan to drink a lot don't take a car to the place. Uber both ways. Or take public transportation.

I prefer staying home. Not drinking, just like being at home away from drama.

@lovebuglena Exactly! Why do they have to drink? I have a drink once and awhile, but not if I am driving. But I only drink at night and I don’t drive at night anyway!

I don't get why people have to drink a lot. They should be able to enjoy themselves and have fun without doing that. And it's hard for me to enjoy myself when people around me are drinking and drinking... especially hubby.

@lovebuglena People often make bad choices. Nothing we can do about it except stay away from it. Again, this is why I stay home.

I agree. The guy was staying at his parents' house, which was close to the restaurant, so of course he could drink to his heart's content. Hubby had to drive, so he shouldn't have been drinking a lot. And if someone is offered a shot and the person says NO that means NO. Stop offering! Stop asking if you can pour him/her a shot!

I would pulled my husband from that friend and leave the party. That is very annoying.

If I would have told hubby we are leaving he wouldn't have left.

That's a totally irresponsible friend that keeps pouring liquor for someone that has to drive.

I know. Unless he thought that I was driving. But I doubt that.
