Yesterday's Visit

I went to McPherson yesterday to visit with my sister and help her with her paperwork. I took her to the library so we could be uninterrupted. She said that Saturday she took a cab to Wal Mart and spent four hours riding around on a mobility scooter, looking at everything, buying very little, but just avoiding going home. While we were at the library she was quite relaxed. It is a quiet and beautiful space. She asked them to let her know when a certain book came in, and she got herself a library card. When she lived with me she would not go to the library. I think she was unsure of herself there at that time. Yesterday we spent an hour and a half doing her paperwork and I pointed out that it was a free, comfortable space to go to get away from the neighbor. When we got to her house, the lady was waiting on the sidewalk at someone else's apartment and came over immediately. It is very trying for my sister, even though she likes her. I hope things settle out soon.

I sure hope things get better and easier for your sister. It's so hard when you're not able to get around as you wish.

It is hard for her when people take advantage of her willingness to listen and her inability to be rude. She needs some space, I understand.

@GardenGerty It's very hard when you're too nice. Got to learn to be self preservative and protective. Many just don't know that they may have kept you from an appointment and just want to talk, so you got to let them know things. It will be safer and better if we all learn to be self preservative.

i'm so glad y'all got to spend that time together 'n got that paperwork done, too. hopefully she'll seek refuge there more oft. reckon that neighbor seen a familiar, friendly face :( i hope 't gets settled, too. dunno what sort'a rush the family'd be'n though? they tend to slack a bit when they're not the ones who're payin' the price.

I think the family understands quite well, but there are steps that have to be taken even when you have found a nursing home or long term care facility that seems to be a match. Her son is actually the president of a small private college. I knew him when he was just a college kid. So, even if they decide on a place, she has to have an assessment by local area agency on aging and quite a few other things.

That was a good plan to get your sister away from the neighbour for a while.

It sounds like a relaxing day for you and your sister. I am sure she needed it. I hope that soon this all comes to an end. It is awful not to be able to relax in your own home.

You have stated it precisely. She has both loved and hated living in that complex. It is a little community all on its own and each resident seems to have a role to play.

Our family tries to look after each other and always have. I know people who have no connection with family, and I feel rich because I do.

Some people seem to be drama magnets. She does, and to some degree, I do too. My mom said I had a knack for finding unusual friendships.

It is not too bad. When things are going well she loves having her own place.

@GardenGerty That would make it nicer. Our local one is kind of drab.

It was just two sides of one sheet. It asked why she needed this visit, her health history and medications. It asked about mental health history and family history. I think she does not see real well and then is anxious about this situation and she just felt overwhelmed.
