I have invented a new dish, never thought of by anyone else anywhere!

They say "necessity is the mother of invention," and I believe I experienced that the other night. My cupboard was almost bare, but I spied some pasta, some olive oil, some fresh garlic cloves, and (in the fridge) some grated Parmesan and Romano cheese. In a flash, my brilliant mind came up with an idea: why not cook up the pasta, put some olive oil and fresh sliced garlic on it, and top it with my grated cheese! It was absolutely delicious (who needs tomato sauce?) and will become a part of my rotation! What do you think I should call it? Will I become famous?

It sounds like a plan. Call it "my cupboard's empty so here is dinner".

Sounds good. But I'm waiting for LadyDuck and/or Maluse to tell me that this dish has been a part of Italian cuisine for Centuries. I kind of set myself up, didn't I? And how exactly does "ain't went shopping" translate into Italian anyway? (multiple silly emojis, concluding with a hug)

@andriaperry Me neither. But I actually did live in Italy for a year.

That sounds a little like Stone Soup to me (only it's missing the stone).

Yep. I usually have bottled red (tomato) sauce around.

Sounds good to me! I have often grabbed a few items from the pantry, tossed them together and served it up with love. Never had a complaint so far.

Maybe the love is the most important ingredient.

Name it “Zappa,” because we all know Frank Zappa was the Mothers of Invention.

Hey, I like that. Short and to the point. We're having Zappa for dinner tonight. But my guests might flee, knowing as they do that several of my ex-Ms Horses are in the freezer.

Maluse is correct you invented nothing this is called "aglio e olio", we add a bit of "peperoncino" (hot chili pepper) instead of grated cheese, a lot healthier and more "spicy".

@TheHorse NO lemon will not work. If you creamy a couple of anchovies in the oil and add chopped flat parsley this is called "San Giovanniello". If you like grated cheese make a "Cacio e Pepe", butter grated cheese freshly ground pepper. We have more than 300 "common" recipes to make pasta in Italy.

I am so...hurt! Actually, I might try a hint of chili pepper next time. Would a tiny hit of lemon work?

You have hurt my feelings. I received a call from an Italian culinary magazine, asking for details. I have to decide what to call it.

Sounds absolutely delicious. I have made just pasta butter and cheese before. Hard to go wrong with this combination. Maybe Horse's Garlic Pasta.

@TheHorse You enjoyed it, that is the main thing. Sometimes meals thrown together like this are better than those planned out. Kind of like in life. Just go with it.
