National TV Dinner Day

United States
September 9, 2019 1:41pm CST
... is tomorrow. On September 10th,1953 Swanson came out with its first convenience dinner, or t.v. dinner. It revolutionized the home cooked meal, making it easy for busy households to have nutritious meals without spending a few hours in front of the stove. Do you eat TV dinners?

Very rarely do I eat them. I'm not a big fan for two reasons. A lot of time there is not enough food in them and I'm still hungry after eating one and the other is a lot of time they are not very good tasting. I think I would rather spend a little more time in the kitchen making something that will be filling enough and taste a lot better.

I had one a few years ago that was extremely salty. It was really nasty. I buy Amy's Brand every once in awhile, but most of the time I don't. I hardly even use the microwave. Yep, spending a few more minutes in the kitchen is usually much more worth it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't really like using the microwave either. I want fresh food in the oven.

@Bensen32 I am trying to remember the last thing I used the microwave for, and I think it was to melt butter for something.

I do not, although there was a time when I did. Luckily I learned how to cook to not have to eat that garbage.

I used to eat them when I worked over night. I only ate them when I was working, which was maybe three days a week (working 12 hours each shift). They usually have far too much sodium.

@porwest I'm sure the fast food isn't really helping things either, even if fast food places are now giving you more healthy options. I remember many years ago when I just out of high school and working for a fast food restaurant (my first and last time doing that) we had a customer who always requested fries without salt on them. He had issues with High BP.

@ScribbledAdNauseum For me that's the big issue. I am on a salt restriction, have high blood pressure, and take medication for it. It's bad enough when I am traveling for work I am resigned to eating so much fast food.

It's a nice treat, once in a blue moon, isn't it?

The last one I ate was an Amy's brand, which I think is probably one of the healthier ones.

Same, I eat Amy's every once in awhile, but I think it's probably a bit more healthy than any of the others.
