Diary 9th September 2019 Quitting Voluntary Work

I just quit the voluntary work group I have served faithfully for three years. I have had enough of being blocked and ignored at meetings and the latest stance over the 17th September mandatory equality training event was the last straw. I first heard of the meeting when one of the veteran volunteers took charge at the last film group meet. I checked my diary and found the demanded meeting clashed with my signing on day, which really is obligatory and affects my welfare income. I said I couldn't come and why and asked about alternative dates but the meeting’s chair just insisted I tell the welfare people I can't sign on that day and then changed the subject. The next day the senior volunteer handler sent out the official timetable that also lists the diversity -equality event as 'mandatory'. The list highlights events up to early 2020 but no alternative dates are offered for the mandatory meeting. I wrote in to say I can't go and asked for alternate dates - I also mentioned the meeting chair's pointless nasty and immature brick in the face answer . The boss lady sent me back a long preamble on the importance of diversity, even inviting me to talk with senior university people if I don't believe her - it was as if I was refusing diversity-equality training, not questioning the date on offer. She then rather begrudgingly told me I could have a 1-1 diversity meeting (detached from the group) and quibbled that where she said mandatory I called it a summons even though both words mean you have no choice but to turn up - She demanded I come in for a hearing on why I'm so unhappy with all the volunteers with her and a colleague and actually suspending me from all other voluntary activity there until I attend it - I just wrote back that I quit as I don't want any more of this nit-picking crap. No reply from her since. Youtube – Take This Job And Shove It Arthur Chappell

That's a shame but good for you. I hope you're able to find something else more worthwhile to fill in your time - if that's what you want.

@JudyEv there are options - May well explore them after Xmas - expecting possible paid work before then

I wouldn't have put up with treatment for long. Sounds like a bunch of self serving empire builders

I'm assuming the irony in not even contemplating alternative dates for *Equality & Diversity* training is lost on them!
