"A Star is Born" is a musical romantic drama which was released in 2018. This is the 3rd remake of the 1937 film of the same name. CAST Bradley Cooper - Jackson "Jack" Maine Lady Gaga - Ally Maine Sam Elliott - Bobby Maine Dave Chappelle - George "Noodles" Stone Andrew Dice Clay - Lorenzo Anthony Ramos - Ramon In the opening scene pill-popping, alcoholic Jackson "Jack" Maine, a country singer, is performing to a sell-out crowd. After the show Jack is looking for a bar to patronize; and he asks to be dropped off at what turns out to be a drag queen bar. He meets a man named Ramon and has a couple of drinks. Ally then gets on the stage and performs "La Vie en Rose"; and Jack is brought to tears over her performance. Ramon arranges for the two to meet in the dressing room. They spend the rest of the night talking. Ally tells Jack that she doesn't perform her own music because, while they like her music, they don't like her face. Jack tells Ally that she's beautiful. Outside Ally sings "Shallow" that she wrote; and Jack loves the song. Jack brings Ally to his house and invites her to see his show; but she has to work. She goes home to her father, Lorenzo. Later Phil shows up at the house to pick her up and fly her to the show. She says she has to work; but Phil doesn't give up. She goes to work and gets reprimanded for being late; so she quits. She and Ramon fly out to see Jack perform. Jack persuades Ally to go on stage and sing "Shallow" with him. Videos of this performance go viral. Ally eventually joins Jack on his tour; and they start to have a relationship. If you want to know what happens next, you will have to watch the movie. Cooper and Gaga have a natural chemistry and a lot of talent between them. Sam Elliott and Andrew Dice Clay are also stand-outs. This movie is so well done from the screenplay to the acting to the singing and beyond. The movie was chosen by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute as one of the top 10 films of 2018. It received 8 Academy Award nominations and 5 Golden Globe nominations and won 1 each for "Shallow" as Best Song. I have no hesitation in giving "A Star is Born" my recommendation.
