Ascending Mt. Gould. A goat photo I took several years ago in Montana.

One of my favorite Montana mountains to climb is Mount Gould, on the "Garden Wall" in Glacier Park Montana. It's entirely "non-technical," and involves mostly choosing decent routes over small "cliffs" that are not really dangerous. The view from the top is incredible. You can look down on Many Glacier Hotel, to the East, or look West toward Lake MacDonald. Or North to the Mountains in Canada, or South, toward the trail head. You can also look down on Grinnell Glacier, once one of the largest glaciers in Glacier National Park (it is now mostly a lake, as global warming has taken its toll). Since I'm in a goat frame of mind, I thought I'd post this picture of a goat family I encountered while climbing Mt. Gould about 15 years ago. This picture was taken with a non-digital Olympus OM-1 camera. They (the goats) were not afraid of me and watched with what seemed like amusement as I huffed and puffed up the rocks over which they climb with ease. Their calm assured me that no grizzly bears were near. I'd like to climb this mountain one more time while in this incarnation. If I get some comments, I'll try to attach some other photos of the views from Mt. Gould. Glacier National Park remains one of my favorite spots in the US.

You're just trying to curry favour with the goat judge now aren't you? (Mmmmmmm curried goat) Seriously though, that looks pretty spectacular. Last year we walked up the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales. Not sure any of them were that impressive!

@TheHorse You might find the UK peaks somewhat wetter! We struck very lucky when we walked them. Glorious sunshine every day. Ben Nevis is in a particularly lovely area in the Scottish Highlands. And there's a distillery right nearby.

@WorDazza Is a little celebration after a Ben Nevis hike a part of tradition?

On the way down from the same hike, I encountered a male Big Horn Sheep. He seemed to be giving me a "macho man" look, or maybe he was just posing for the camera. I will try to find it.

These are mountain goats. On our "flat lands," we have many different kinds of goats. They come in many different colors and are always fun to play with.

@LadyDuck "...with the sound of music..." The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies. And probably my favorite musical. Well, "Lion King" is technically a "musical"...

It did this week, but I bet it will be melted soon. I am hoping that the new product I used on the roof holds up.

What parts of the Park did you visit? Did you get some decent hikes in?

@TheHorse I am not a hiker. Most of the park was closed down due to a major fire.

They were wondering why you didnt just hop from one to the other. That would have been a lot easier.

We encounter them often when when we hike/climb above 6000 feet or so in Glacier. They are not particularly afraid of humans.
