Just 2,199.75 Miles to Go!

The Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu famously said, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Given that, I'm on my way to hiking the Appalachian Trail....with just 2,199.75 miles to go.
The Appalachian Trail runs from Maine to Georgia. Many hikers consider it a "holy grail" of sorts to hike the entire length of the Trail. Most people hike it in "segments," however, given its enormity. The length is about 2,200 miles.
I love to read about the adventures of people on the Trail. In fact, I chatted with a couple who were starting their latest segment of hiking the Trail while enjoying the view at Newfound Gap (which is on the Tennessee/North Carolina line). But as for me hiking it? Hey, I'm glad I made it a quarter of a mile!!!

The west coast equivalent is the 2650 mile Pacific Crest Trail from the Mexican border to the Canadian border.

A lot of hikers have both as their ultimate goal. I’ve watched videos of some of them on YouTube.

So can you camp as you go? Or do you have to get a room at the end of the day? That would be a cool experience. We have the Colorado Trail here. I should probably think about planning doing that sometime. Why not?
By the way, be sure to sign up for Tripleblaze. com and log all your hikes and photos. It's a really cool camping/hiking website. You can review trails and stuff. I'm on there. Good way to find places, too!

Yes, you camp as you go. There are camps sites along the way.

@teamfreak16 — there’s a west coast version, the Pacific Crest Trail, running from border to border (Canada to Mexico).

I know I could not hike for too many miles but I would enjoy traveling around the states.

My in-phone pedometer says I walked 8 1/2 miles yesterday. I'm feeling it in my legs today, but oh, was it worth it.

Great pic. 1/4 of a mile is better than nothing! Good job.

Wow! That's giving new meaning to the phrase "take a hike."

Very interesting, I think it would make a good exercise practice for preparedness even if people do not finish it entirely, the further you can go the better, going back is another thing
