Another problem with SCAM SPAM emails

Of course, most of us get a lot of SPAM eamails and SCAM phone calls. They're a pain in the butt, but there's a secondary problem with them: When we get a legitimate email or phone call from PayPal or eBay or our doctor, we're likely to be suspicious. Is this real? Have you ever deleted, or almost deleted, something that turned out to be real? Exactly that happened to me this morning. The headline on this email from PayPal was a bit wordy, but the grammar was OK, so I opened it. I was a red nose hair away from deleting it without reading it. --- Dear (my real name, correctly spelled): We're sending you a copy of our Annual Error Resolution Notice to provide helpful information if you have a billing error or unauthorized transaction on your PayPal account. Just remember that you can check out our Error Resolution Notice anytime by going to the section of our User Agreement "Liability for Unauthorized Transactions and Other Errors". As always, if you need help or have any questions, visit our Help Center. You can also find the link on any page of our website. Thank you for being a PayPal customer. Sincerely, PayPal

But do you ever miss a "real" email, like the one I attached?

@TheHorse So far I have not. I check my trash before I delete it. I get two chances to delete.

I don't know what is real/fake, I don't open and delete. If it's real then I guess I'll be affected and if I get my account banned or something I will contact customer service lol.

Contacting Customer Service can cost hours of your life, though.

@TheHorse It's definitely not relevant to mine, either.

I'm glad I decided to read it. But it turned out not to be relevant to my situation right now.

PayPal had a problem two days ago, may be they are contacting the people whose account they think could have been involved in their temporary problem.

@TheHorse My husband told me, he was paying something online and the payment could not be completed. Later he knew that it was a problem with PayPal.

That may be. I haven't checked my account in awhile. I assume everything is OK.

I work for a very large company and we constantly get emails from unrecognised people from completely irrelevant and previously unheard of departments. I play safe and repot everything as spam. If nothing else I hope it highlights how much junk is generated even by our own internal departments.

@TheHorse The vast majority are genuine emails from within the company. It's just that the company is so large they are coming from people and departments I've never heard of.

Do you think some of it actually comes from within the Company?

@JESSY3236 I don't trust much that come via the internet, though.

Yes, some times we get such mails in case if there is ny problem in logging in or incommunicating with a site and these mails are computer generated and are directly sent to our e mail ids!

Yes, and I agree, I have to be real careful not to delete a real email.

I've "non-spammed" the occasional "real" email that wind up in my spam folder as well.

If I am in doubt I go to the site from the link I have saved. While there I can report the e-mail if needed.

I get so many junk emails that I have overlooked a real one in the past. I don't have time to unsubscribe (I didn't subscribe in the first place) and I don't have time to look through all of them, so I end up deleting spam and legit alike. I tell people to text me, don't send me an email. Glad you caught that real one in time.

@TheHorse I could do that if I could figure out how to get rid of so many junk emails without deleting important ones.

I'm the opposite. I tell people DON'T text me (I don't really text). Email me instead, and put something familiar in the header.

I received this one. Knew it was real. But hey, these tricksters can make a scam email look legit these days.

Only since they hired me. I'm a good writer and know the English language, as well as the rhythm of "real" Company emails, quite well. My new career as a scam email writer has proven extremely lucrative. To heck with teaching and saving the world for poor children in the Bay Area. Cha-ching!
