Quick Update on My Mom

As I mentioned in my post last night that I would post an update on my mom very soon, so here it is! Mom had a little setback with a change in her medication. This happened right before we left for our little getaway to the Gulf Coast. I noticed the change while we were there. It happened on the day before we left. This change has to do with her moods and thinking. She also has some hallucinations with this. I called her doctor early Friday morning and talked to one of the assistants. After explaining what was happening, she put me right through to the doctor. After a short discussion, it was agreed that we would take my mother off the new medication and put her back on the other medicine she was taking prior to the new prescription. This has been done and it is now several weeks later and she is not back to her prior state. She is still having trouble. I am hoping that this will stabilize very soon as it is very taxing and so unpredictable. Thank you all for your thoughts and continued prayers. Photo: Pixabay, public domain

bless all y'alls hearts, hon. i know such's diff'cult fer yerself'n family, but can 'nly 'magine what'cher momma 'tis goin' through. here's a link to foods that could help, though i'd check with the doc's 'bout her nutrition. they may wanna do some tests to see how her vitamin/mineral levels'd be, not jest the routine tests most oft given. that'n ya don't wanna feed her foods that could interact'n a bad way with those meds.
Two Canadian doctors explain their idea for a Brain Health Food Guide — which gives top billing to some staples of the Mediterranean diet.

Vitamin and mineral levels have all been checked and are good. Going to try to tweek the diet. I'm already in the doghouse about nutrition because she loves junk food and I withhold it except for rare treats.

@crazyhorseladycx No telling. I think most of the foods in grocery stores is poisoned now days. Too many chemicals added and preservatives.

@kareng that's great, hon. best 'f luck with those changes, make 'em slowly. sneak'n what'cha can. 've ya noticed that's folks get more 'seasoned', e'en without dementia, they tend to turn to sweets 'n junk food? makes me think that the 'norm' showin' with their tests're not accurate fer the elderly perhaps?

I'm hoping this stops soon too. The stories are all so wild that it become hard to remember them all and then you have to figure out what she remembers from the day before and put it all together. I feel looney now.

@kareng Just hang in there. We have a dinner date next month with a friend who has dementia. His wife warned me that he will ask a question and then ask it again. We’re prepared for anything.

@DianneN This bathroom remodel has really messed with my mom's mind. She keeps asking which bathroom she can use now. This is like 8 to 12 times a day.

Our break in Biloxi was nice until this all started happening. It does keep me on my toes and no time for leisure at all.

We should have insisted that her medication be left alone to begin with. Live and learn.

Yes you do love and learn. You had no way of knowing this would happen with the new medication.

Yes, it is. I'm just trying to deal with each day as it gets here. Can't make too many plans because the unexpected always pops up.

@kareng we took care of my in-laws the last four years they were with us. (Both had Alzheimer's) it was really hard on my wife (I was traveling)!

@DocAndersen Yes, I can see how that would have been taxing. I am relieved when my husband comes home from work just for conversation.

I had already tightened the diet up a lot. She was not on a good diet when she stayed with my brother. He mainly stocked the refrigerator with frozen stuff that is loaded with sodium. She is on a heart diet with very low sodium and that is what he fed her.
