Loving Pumpkins and Pumpkin Pie

Halloween time, pumpkin season, Autumn pumpkins

I do love the fall and all the pumpkins I see around the stores. With the coloured leaves it gives a kind of warm atmosphere. There's all kinds of pumpkins these days, even white ones and today I saw a blue one. Lately they have ones they call fantasy pumpkins that look like something that would grow in a magical forest. They are paler and have exaggerated pumpkin shapes and long stems- a little like the one in the Pixabay picture above. I usually get my husband to carve one out with a Halloween face even though our kids have long gone out on their own and we don't get little kids in our complex too much. However this year I am going to get a few small ones and maybe paint faces on them for fun. Or let one of my granddaughters do it. Anyway, one thing for sure-- I'll be making and buying pumpkin pie as it is one of my favourites. Any pumpkin plans? Or how about squash? Or maybe you are going to squash your pumpkin plans----

Pumpkins are starting to show on the shelves. Halloween is not a big thing here, but I like pumpkin soup so I will surely buy.

@MarymargII Garlic, a small chili pepper and nothing more. We do not use the "pumpkin spices" you use in the North American continent.

Oh yes- squash and pumpkin soup is always delicious. What spices do you put in the soup?

@LadyDuck I would add them to yours as I do love the taste of pumpkin spices- probably because I grew up with that taste in Pumpkin pie and also enjoy that taste in some Middle Eastern foods.

No pumpkin pies here. Halloween has never been big here but it's getting more popular each year.

@MarymargII The wildflowers in our area are looking good this year. They have finished further north but now it's our turn.

Well commercialism always grows if they see a market- but I do love this time- the harvest time. You are well into Spring right now so things should be blooming.

We saw immense pumpkins at a fair yesterday and as decorations at a restaurant. I don’t know how they got them into the foyer! I never cared for pumpkin pie and don’t carve them anymore.

I love to see the Jack-o-Lanterns lit up but will not be doing that this year. I know those huge ones must take a crane to position in places!

@MarymargII I’m sure something must lift those huge pumpkins into place. No more jack o lantern carving for us anymore. We did it for years until the kids got old enough to do it themselves. They are out of the house, so we can’t be bothered. We don’t have many young kids in the area anymore.

I'm glad you'll enjoy some pumpkin pies this year. I started liking pumpkin when I found a no-bake recipe. Otherwise, I don't eat baked pumpkin pies if I can help it. I really don't like them.

@MarymargII I have one I found in a magazine many years ago. Then a couple of years ago, Keebler put the recipe on their graham crusts.

i know Valerie- pumpkin pie is kind of a love or hate thing because it's so distinct. It does help if you like those allspice type of spices as well. Yes you may look into a recipe for a type of pumpkin cheesecake thing that's really good as well- and if you use a sugar substitute it's probably alright for your diet.

@just4him Really with the sugar substitute. I know Keebler graham crusts as they also sell them here. So I will take a look.

I don't like pumpkin pie and I don't care pumpkins anymore so I won't be buying any. I will buy a squash to go with my Thanksgiving dinner.
