Japan hit flood

Philippines
October 13, 2019 9:31pm CST
I never knew that this country could experience such a devastating typhoon. It's not the first time they were hit by a typhoon, but having flood at this high?! A few years back I watch a documentary about their flood control system. So, I really though it's impossible for them to experience flood. Sadly, they still experience casualties. What even more fascinating is that there's no trace of trash what soever. Totally different in my country. Have a nice day

I think the typhoon they experienced was not the ordinary type of Typhoons they usually encounter. I think its more a super typhoon that they encountered that is why the devastation overwhelmed them too. It is like what Tacloban experienced way back in 2013.

It would be devastating to be hit by such a storm and I believe there was an earthquake as well.

@Letranknight2015 During the typhoon! It didn't hurt anyone though, being pretty far out to sea. Japanese agency put it at 5.7 and 80 km deep. I felt it. Japan uses a slightly different calculation scale so the foreign agencies had it lower.

Hello @hereandthere Some of those are old houses dated back hundreds of years.

@Letranknight2015 Most are only a hundred or less. The wooden houses tend to rot after a while because of mold and dampness. Those houses that collapsed are probably post-war (1945) or early 1900s. The good thing about wooden houses here is that they sway in an earthquake rather than collapse like a stone or unreinforced concrete would. Also they let in the breeze, which is important in the summer (like in your place).

As I know, Japan is the cleanest and when it comes to their structure they have high class structure. But no country is perfect.

I'm safe in case anyone is interested. Tokyo was ok but I spent a lot of my day (we were told to shelter in place, nobody went out at all) translating the evacuation warnings for friends who don't speak Japanese. Several of my friends had to evacuate because of flooding.

Hello @petatonicsca At least you got shelters there. I'm glad you are safe. But I couldn't believe they were houses that we drag into the flood. I hope your situation over there would go back to normal soon. There was someone else here who also lives in japan, haven't heard from her fro some time now. I'm happy that you're okay.
