Today I’ll begin where I ended. That’s at the New River Gorge in West Virginia.
A little sarcasm in the name of the river, as one of the informational displays at the visitors center said the “New” River is thought to be the second oldest river in the world, second only to the Nile. The gorge is about 700 feet deep, with this man-made wonder spanning the gorge.
The New River Gorge Bridge is one of the longest single-span arch bridges in the world. It’s the third-highest vehicular bridge in the US. And the beauty it crosses?! Just plain wow.
I told my brother I was glad I’m here now instead of trying to come next weekend, as next weekend (October 19) with be what’s called “Bridge Day,” where the bridge is shut down for BASE jumping. That’s not for me. I’d rather stand there and admire the wonders of God’s creation and this beautiful man-made structure.
