Selling my childhood scooter....

I'm trying hard to get rid of things around the house that are just taking up space. I split things up as much as I can between donating them or selling them. Some money would really come in handy as stupid Christmas is approaching. Don't mean to sound like a grouch but maaaaaaaan! I just want one year with no celebrations so I can build my damn money up! Every year I save then back to being broke in January! Bah to the Humbug!
Anyway, I put my childhood Scooter up for sale this evening and someone has taken an interest. Said she will come tomorrow to collect. Not too excited yet as sometimes people suck at committing to a buy. Even worse, sometimes people don't even let me know if they will be late or coming at all.
My goodness I sound like I'm in a horrible mood this evening!
I won't regret this sale but I am sad to see it go. I got it in the 2000's so I was just a kid. But I have to be realistic. I don't use it anymore and it's just taking up space. And the extra money will help.
I think the most hardest things for me to let go of are items that belonged to my mum. I have done quite well over the years but there are still items that really should go but I can't say goodbye to them. It's just hard but hopefully over time I can do it!
Have you ever had to sell something that was hard to let go?

It has never bothered me to sell stuff of mine that I don't use anymore, but I had always hated getting rid of clothes, toys or furniture of my kids. Because they all have so many wonderful memories attached to them. But, we can't keep everything forever, or else we'd have no space at all in our homes! So I always take lots of pictures of things, so we can at least have memories of the stuff when we look back at the pictures. And of course, I've kept many small things that have special meaning to me.

@moffittjc Aw how sweet! I imagine me being the same way if I'm ever a mother. But I like to take photos too. If I'm about to get rid of anything, I take a photo to keep as it takes up way less space than the actual item.

@VivaLaDani13 I had a meltdown a couple of years ago buying gifts. That made me so stressed that I did not enjoy Christmas at all, that year I decided no more gifts for Christmas. I will surely bake.

@LadyDuck Thank you.
I'm sorry you struggled at that time getting rid of things. But yes like you said, can't keep everything.
And no gifts for Christmas would literally make my Christmas. I don't want to not do anything but thinking I will make Christmas foods like cookies or something. Had a little meltdown last year during Christmas from buying gifts and I can't keep doing this. Christmas shouldn't be miserable!

@LadyDuck Sorry you had a meltdown!
It really does become too much! And I feel as if Christmas is becoming more and more of people stressing trying to get presents on time as well as trying hard to afford them. It's not really simple and fun anymore.

Like you said, doing what I can to earn money but I'm hoping in January next year, I can start a Childcare Course. Which from there, hopefully get a job once the course is over.

@just4him Thank you kindly! I love it.
I like to do both. Because I don't have a job right now, it helps me to make extra cash so sometimes that will be from selling things that I own. But a lot of stuff does go to charity or to people I know could use what I have. Same as you, I couldn't give away anything too sentimental. I will keep photos of this scooter but keeping the actual scooter is just taking up space.

I have seen those around here a lot and I was thinking of one for when I do not use my mobility scooter but then thought I would rather walk until I cannot. I can see why they would take an interest. They are very popular. I understand why you are not excited about someone showing interest and saying they will come the next day. I hate when people say they will buy something and wonder if they will show up to get it. It is nice and I cannot see why she would not come to get it the next day. I would not say you are in a bad mood. I would say you want to sell it and there is nothing wrong with that. Dani, you do not have to explain why you are selling it to anyone. I can see why that would be hard. Is there something you can keep from your Mom's stuff or do something special for your Mom to keep her memory alive for you. I either sold some things tjhat were hard to sell or gave them away because did not need them anymore.

@Hannihar Thank you Hanni. It does just become so frustrating with how often people back out or how often people aren't considerate enough. It really does my head in!
I already have a box of my Mum's stuff and a big doll that was hers. I used to have a lot more but slowly got rid of it over time because they weren't really sentimental. I was only keeping them because it was all hers but it was taking up so much space in our small house. I don't really intend to go through her box again any time soon. I'm just focusing on my stuff for now.

@Hannihar The woman didn't show up. She backed out completely but a man did buy it today so it's gone. I also managed to auction off a vacuum that we don't need anymore so that's another big thing to leave the house. And will try to sell / auction more things off tomorrow.

I understand that. Did the person show up? I understand why want to have things around from your Mom. They were apart of her. Good idea focusing on your stuff. You are welcome.

My son had the same scooter. It will be nice to get some extra money. I have a hard time parting with anything that has any sentimental value that is why i still have so much of my kids toye and things from when they were little.

@Happy2BeMe Unfortunately the woman who really wanted this backed out just at the time she was supposed to be here to pick it up. I had a strong feeling this would happen. Happens a lot and it's so frustrating.
aw that is so sweet! I am pretty sure I'd be the same way if I am ever a mum. I'd get too attached to their toys like you are with your kid's toys.

The buyer will be a good person and do all the right things that they should and pay out right at least I hope they do.
Too many things I have had to let go of more than I would care to tell but that is long ago now.

Exactly, do not give them anything without they pay you first and for them not to persaude you to take the price down either good luck.

@lovinangelsinstead21 When I first started selling things online ( when I was a young teenager ) I was too much of a doormat and too nice to people. I'm still nice! I just mean that my niceness was taken advantage of and I fell for a couple people's sob stories. Not long after dealing with those types of people who didn't pay me or tried to scam me, I became tougher. Still nice! But stricter. No one gets anything unless I receive payment first.

I have moved house many times and take the opportunity to get rid of unnecessary stuff each time. I've never had any of my childhood toys or treasured possessions since I left home 40 years ago.
If I still had them now I probably couldn't do it as they would have such sentimental value. My mum threw all my stuff out years ago so I can't get them back now. Shame

@JohnRoberts I'm still taking that as a major compliment if I may.
I have this fear that I'm really old. NOT saying being old is to be feared. I just mean, I feel old and unsuccessful with where I am in life. So whenever someone calls me young, I feel a bit better. So even through your joke, thank you.

Have you ever bought a new pair for yourself just so you could ride around in? Not saying it will replace your memories but I just mean to ride around again?

@Daljinder That's the sad thing. I actually love Christmas. I love buying people presents. I love watching them open their presents. I love looking at the lights and decorations. I'm just tired of every year being the same where I'm still in the same position. I don't look forward to those feelings. Life wise and just financial wise. It's not that I don't want to celebrate it. I just wish it didn't feel like it comes around so quick and hate how I have trouble with money. Like I wish I could have a Christmas as an adult where my life is content but ( again as an adult ) I don't think I've ever really felt that.
lol and I love what you said at the end! You're awesome. Thank you.

@Daljinder Thank you DJ!
I've sold a few more things since then but that money will help me through Christmas. But yes, I will be trying to do baking goods and / or handmade gifts if I can.
The thought of Christmas makes me sad every time I hear about it. I literally, honestly 100% am not excited about it.

@VivaLaDani13 Maybe it's time you finally decide that enough is enough. It only stresses you out year after year. A festival is supposed to cheer you up. Not put you down. Honestly, it sounds more like its a burden on you.
You need to find a way that makes you happy where this festival is concerned. You are already more than halfway to resenting the festival which is not good coz someday you will have your own family. You wouldn't want to be the one just barely tolerating the festival with your future family. You would want to enjoy it wholeheartedly. Time you set a precedent now!!
Your family and friends will understand if they have even an ounce of care in their heart for you. And if they don't then tell'em, DJsays, "Dani isn't asking you. She is telling you." You do NOT need anyone's permission or approval. You have my understanding in advance.
