In the picture is the dried fish called Tuyo which was often our food when I was in grade school. Those were the hard times that sometimes I don't eat dinner because my taste buds were already complaining of too much tuyo. Just 1 piece for each of the 4 sons, my parents were able to build a home of our own. Now that I am on my own and quite well off with finances so I do not scrimp anymore. See the picture, I have 2 pieces of Tuyo for myself because I am not poor anymore.

Those look a lot like herrings, I like smoked herrings.

These would be small herrings. Maybe sardines?

@MALUSE you are right, they are small sardines although I am not really sure of the name.

@MALUSE I checked online and I found that what they call Tuyo in the Philippines are herrings. They look smaller than those we have here. May be that they also call sardines Tuyo.

Fried anchovies for breakfast with salted egg and tomatoes plus fried rice. That's my favorite.

I love tuyo or dried fish. I usually pair it with scrambled eggs and fried rice

Same with me but not scrambled egg, I prefer fried over-easy.

I do not care what they call it. To me that is when I say thank you small fish you allowed me to go another day. Society makes me so sick how they take such things for granted. Then smash the less fortunate. Its irritating as all hell.

Times were hard for my parents and for Vince's. He often had bread and milk for a meal.

Bread and butter is fine with me but not milk when I was a boy.

Although, it can be paired with rice alone, we usually have that together with vegetable soup ( a variety of vegetable from root to green and leafy cooked with water only and seasoned with salt or the dried fish is also a good seasoning to the vegetable soup)

The best partner for me is sliced tomatoes with salted egg or even just friend egg.
