I'm not as Irish as I once was

Not that I am particularly Irish to begin with.
I got an email that the Ancestry DNA has been updated again. I haven't taken a full look at it but I did notice that they are now saying I am 4% Norwegian.
I don't feel particularly Norwegian either.
Irish is at 9%, I think with the previous update it was at 16% and before that somewhere in the 30% range.
North Western Europe is now piled in with England and Wales which makes me wonder why Norway isn't lopped in their as well.
Anyway,
Have you done the ancestry test?

@LadyDuck I recall learning something about that. I didn't do a lot of research into the subject at the time, but I believe it had to do with the Native Americans never having left what is known as the United States today.
I wonder if the indigenous people of Alaska are more directly related to the people that came before the Native Americans.

Yes, the test cost me about $99 at the time but they have specials that make them as low as $70 sometimes. It took me months to decide whether I wanted to take it and I am not disappointed that I did.
My maternal side boasts of English, German and Dutch ancestry. My Paternal is Irish and I think that there may be some German in there, but I am not sure. This is also the side where there was some Native American ancestors.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The Ancestors of Native American were not from Europe. Genetic analysis of teeth and bones suggests Native Americans largely descend from a vanished group called the Ancient Paleo-Siberians and I am not at all surprised, this perfectly makes sense.

No, I haven't. I would be interested in taking it but I do know both my parents and most of my relative are Latvian

Your parents were first generation to the US? From what I've learned, 50% comes from your mother, and 50% of your ancestry comes from your father. I am sure you probably have some ancestry in the countries surrounding Latvia only because of migration. You probably do have quite a bit of Latvian in you though, just because both your parents were from that Nation.

How do you do the ancestry test?

It's an Ancestry.com test. You pay them (the price varies as they sometimes have specials) and then they send you a kit. You send them your spit and they send you an email with results a few weeks later.

I did this one several years ago. I have thought to do one from 23andme. I found two websites (I forget the names of them) at one point in time that would take my ancestrydna test results and further analyze them for things like genetics and health. The fee per further analysis varied but was around $4-$15.

@Deepizzaguy You reeceive 50% of your heritage from your mom, and another 50% from your dad according to DNA analysts.

@ScribbledAdNauseum No, I won´t. I know that I am a pure Filipino and my late grandmother has Spanish ancestors. That is enough for me to know.

@thelme55 Oh okay, I see. I had to do mine because I wasn't really sure about my dad's side of things. It didn't clear it up too much, though.

@JustBhem Oh okay, I see. My father once told me that his great grandfather was Native American. I haven't really found that in the family yet.

@ScribbledAdNauseum sounds like ancestry isn't very accurate. I don't know what nationality my fathers side is only my mother's.

We have German in our family too. My great grandmother's side hailed from Germany (Maternal side).
My dad always said that it was either his great grandfather or my great grandfather that was Native American. I don't have any of that according to ancestry.

I am only 1% French according to them.
Wow 49% Irish that's quite a bit. I guess your mother and father both had a lot of Irish in their family line.

I haven't done that Ancestry thing and probably won't. My granddaughter is really interested in it so she'll probably be the one to do it.

You're right- it would make sense. Getting your heritage is such fun. My brother did his and I found out I've got lots of French and a little English.

I haven't done it. But I kind of want to.
My dad is Norweigian and Scandanavian. So I have a lot of both of those in me. My mom is Native American, German and Irish.

I was always told that either my great grandfather or my father's great grandfather was full blooded Native American. Haven't found that in my tree.
If you do one, wait until St. Patrick's Day. I think it's usually around $80.00 instead of $100.00.

@thislittlepennyearns I read an article a few years ago that explained that it might not show up in your DNA testing, I don't remember what all it said.. I mean the Native American. I'd like to do the 23andme only to see about genetic health risks and learn more about that, I just haven't set aside any money for it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I will probably wait till then, or have the boyfriend get it for me for my birthday next year. Lol, there's not much Native American in my blood line, but enough for it to count. I wonder if it will come up in the test when i do it. My maternal grandmas mom was native american if i remember it right.

I am not sure what country you are in and if AncestryDNA (ancestry.com) is available to you yet. However, the best time is usually around St. Patrick's Day. I think tney may also discount on Columbus Day but I'm not sure, that's already gone for the year anyway.

I used ancestry.com but I just checked and they do not ship to Mexico yet.
If you do choose to do a ancestral DNA test then make sure it's a good company. There are too many companies out there that scam you.

@samysotelo18 Just be careful with whatever you do choose. 23andme is another reputable company.
If you have family in the US maybe you can get it shipped to them and they can ship it to you.
