Today Is A Must Have Coffee Morning

I'm groggy this morning. I've been up for a few hours but I'm not "awake" yet or not awake enough to get started with my chores.
We were up all night with little stray adopted doggie barking all night long. She usually sleeps and is no problem. There was something that got her interest last night and kept her up ALL night long barking. With hubby having to get up at 5 am, this wasn't a good thing.
He went out first and walked around. He also threatened her...haha. He didn't see anything. We both dozed off to sleep for a bit and I woke up to both dogs barking so I put my shoes on and headed outside. I checked my chicken coops. Didn't see any holes but the chickens were not where they normally sleep. I didn't know if the little dog upset them or if something was after them. There were no holes in the wire. So back inside.
The next time the barking began we both got up and went outside. Didn't seen anything again. Chicken coop was fine. Got dogs settled. Had a short nap band again both dogs barking. Hubby is snoring so I went outside again.
When I didn't come right back hubby came to see what was going on. I found that something was trying to get in the chicken pen. I found a hole and I had half a bag of sand stored there because the fence had been repaired there and the heavy bag of sand acted as reinforcement.
Count my chickens and yes, one is gone. Figured out which one. No signs of tracks around the coop. Hubby thinks I'm delusional at this point and says there are no feather. I said yes there is, right there. So I mend the fence as best I could and put the sandbag back. He says there is no way something moved that bag. I just said something did. It had to be an animal. A human would have used the door.
Now it is less than hour away from alarm clock time. He is stressed. He got another hour and half of sleep before he had to get up. He turned alarm off in his sleep. After I woke him up, I crashed.
He left, and then came back. He said get up, your chicken is walking around the yard. I went outside and yes, there's my girl! She was too spooked to try to catch her so I went back to bed.
My mission today among other things is to catch this gal.
What does your day look like today?

I wonder why and how your chicken got out? I'd still be concerned about an animal making that hole. Hope you catch your chicken.

I got her. She was ready to rejoin her sisters. I know the chicken didn't move the bag of sand. I interweaved the fence back for now and reinforced with an 8 inch board and put the sandbag back up against it. Will see if it gets moved again tonight.

@andriaperry I am thinking I will be tossing the towel in for lots of early nights here with this cold weather.

@wolfgirl569 Oh, I didn't even think of that! Should I put something to eat in it to entice him in?

@kareng I hope not. If you have a live trap you could set it in that area.

oh my, 't least yer chicken 'twas safe 'n i hope ya finally managed to get 'er back to the coop.
when the pups here bark, there's 'lways a cause - either one 'f my critters 'tis loose, 'r one 'f the neighbors critters 's tryin' to break'n. horses, cows, sheep, their pups, e'en an emu once.
my day? wet, cold, breezy 'n dreary. not fer certain how much longer i can do 'this'.

@crazyhorseladycx Yep, they are quite troublesome. Hubby's going to go out one night and take a few down. Hoping after that they won't come back but they are wild so will probably be back as long as they are getting food out that way.

@kareng 'twas so glad to read that'n yer latest discussion :) reminds me 'f when the hubs put the horses all out together 'n a drunken brilliance. somehow he didn't think 4 studs 'n 5 mares'd get 'nto massive battles??? anyhow, my big boy (may he be runnin' free) went off 'bout a mile. the neighbors t'were keen'n helpin' get him back home. he wished no part 'f that. 'twas botherin' nothin', so i let him be. told 'em that when he felt safe, he'd return'n his own. sure 'nough, 'bout 2 hours later, he 'twas standin' out by the gate. gave a big sigh 'f relief when he walked back 'nto his corral.
ick'n the wild pigs, hon. i know they've turned 'nto quite the trouble'n quite a few places.

There was a hole in the fence that I have no clue how it got opened back up. I am pretty sure the chickens didn't do it, so a chicken snatching must have been foiled. She was safe this morning and walking in the yard. The hole was where the wire was repaired when dog chewed it. I had a bag of sand there too to reinforce it. No way a chicken moved the sandbag.

It made for a very long day too. I had to get all the laundry done today also and combined with fixing meals for mom and myself and cleaning up the kitchen and doing critter feedings, it was a very long day! The chicken is back in her coop, and hoping and praying no incidents tonight.
