The Problem With Autumn Here

If you noticed, I went out looking for foliage. There’s a reason. Louisville is in a valley, in a really weird weather location. (Lori will back me up on this.) We avoid tornadoes that hit all around us. We don’t get snow when they get hammered two counties south or north. Given that this is a city, there’s the “heat island” effect, that’ll keep us a little warmer in winter and hotter in summer. We have the infamous Ohio Valley Crud, which I’m currently getting because I keep running in and out of the Valley. Then there’s autumn. Our leaves change, along with the rest of the area (it’s not that weird). Unfortunately, by the time the foliage starts peaking, 80% of the leaves are on the ground, not on the trees. That’s not saying there’s not a lot of beauty to see around town. Just notice the picture, for instance, taken this morning when I mailed a letter.

Yes I do. White (snow) isn’t pretty.

@NJChicaa -- we have all these people here who like to say BOTS (bring on the snow). I say they can come and shovel my driveway if they like it that freaking much!

Maybe it has to do with the species of the trees.

It's funny how there can be pockets of land with very different weather patterns .

Beautiful shot. What's the Ohio Valley Crud? Sounds awful!

I have plenty. And the funny thing is, I don’t even have any trees on my property!

This year we were very lucky to keep our colourful leaves for a while. The wind usually takes them as soon as they turn. Ours are pretty much all golden. Red is rare. Your photo is gorgeous.
