It's A Fine Saturday!

It was quite cool here this morning when I woke up but I had lots to do so get the ground running. I got coffee brewing and biscuits in the oven and then got mom up. After I got her all settled I headed to town to mail a package. The post office closes at 10:30 on Saturday mornings so I was cutting it really close. I made it with ten minutes to spare. They were short handed today with one person in the post office and one person delivering mail. On the way home I stopped at a garage sale in town. They didn't have anything I needed, so I turned toward home. When I turned down the highway on the way home, I remembered that there was a garage sale on our road. It was further down from our house, so I stopped to tell my hubby where I was going and that I had already stopped in town. I had left my phone at home so couldn't send a message. I found some awesome cookbooks for $1 each at the second garage sale and some old antique bottles that I got for $.25. I can't wait to look them up online later today. She also had a propane firepit burner that I came home and told hubby about. It looked brand new. He went back and got the firepit burner and also found an old pewter cup and some antique bone handled silverware. The set had 8 3-prong forks and 8 butter knives. He got this set for only $3. The sun is out and it is a beautiful day. We do have a sharp wind blowing but the sun makes up for that little inconvenience. We are planning on working in the yard for a bit today and then having a bonfire later on. What are you doing today and how is your weather? Photo: Pixabay, public domain

You've certainly had an interesting day so far. We used to be avid garage sale fans, looking for collectibles; but I stay away now because I'm downsizing and decluttering. It's 40ish and dreary again today. It's been cloudy for days. We have some rain coming.

I was so happy the sun was shining. My only regret is not stopping at the farmer's market. There was only one table set up but they had fresh mustard greens. Now I'm wanting to cook some. They shut down at noon so too late. Maybe next Saturday I can venture back into town early.

@LindaOHio The one table that was set up are regulars so they should be there. There is also another man that sets up in town during the week that has greens. I may luck out!

They are downsizing. and moving from a huge house to 1300 square feet house. I couldn't even imagine all the stuff she had there in one house with the wall deco she had.

I built a bonfire in the backyard last night! After a cool, drizzly and overcast day, the clouds finally parted right about sundown last night, giving way to a lovely evening. Just cool enough to make a fire worth it!

I've been cleaning up the yard for the last few days. Love getting out there when the weather is nice. I'm still burning too. I have piles of privet stacked up to burn.

@kareng I've always loved doing yard work, I've never really looked at is a "chore." Anything that gets me outside in nature is a plus for me! And you're right, with the weather cooling off, it's the perfect opportunity to be outside working in the yard!

I only have a couple because I've never had a lot of free time to bake or make meals. Now that I am retired, I can do that.

Interesting pieces at least. I had to laugh because my hubby fusses when I bring home stuff like that and then he went and bought the pewter mug and bone handled stainless set. Too funny.

What a beautiful photo! I was visiting the graveyard of my parents-in-law in the cemetery half an hour drive from my home. The weather was cold but it was still bearable.

Thanks, but it is just a random pull from Pixabay, a site that hosts public domain photos. I'm glad the weather was bearable. I'm not liking our start to winter here.

I had to laugh with hubby coming in with stuff. He fusses at me and did the same thing. I'm glad you have had decent weather. Tomorrow will make day number 3 hitting 70 here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Thursday also! The front may mess Thursday up though.

I love finding unique things. My hubby wasn't too pleased about all the cookbooks. He said you have a lot of cookbooks already. That is not so. I had one or two and they are stored somewhere after moving from LA to MS. I may never find them again.

@JudyEv I get in cooking moods and go on searches for new or different things to cook. That's about the only time I look in cookbooks or search the net for new recipes.

@kareng I don't cook much but Vince mostly goes on the net if he wants a recipe. I have quite a few cookbooks but they rarely get looked at.

I stay busy doing one thing or another in addition of caring for my mother.
