I wanted to entitle this post "What I Got for my Birthday" but I don't think it would attract the audience I want to see this.
Even though my daughters bought me a ticket to see Donny and Marie as a birthday present, they still celebrated my birthday on the actual day. Usually I get a simple "Happy Birthday, Mom" but they are raising the bar trying to make me cry at every occasion. And I did cry when the concert started but I guess they wanted to see more. Masochists!
Seriously, they're tears of happiness.
My younger daughter (probably with her sister) gave me a weighted blanket. There has been a lot of talk about these blankets. I myself have questioned people who have bought them about whether they are too hot but never got an answer. I wake up sweating once a night and was worried that a weighted blanket would make me even hotter.
The theory behind the weighted blanket is that is helps with anxiety, helps you sleep better and a lot of people need weight on their legs, especially if they have Restless Legs Syndrome. Occasionally I get restless legs or I just can't get comfortable and find myself moving to the living room couch to sleep and tuck my legs behind the cushions. That works for me.
But now... now I have the weighted blanket. It is 15 pounds. I couldn't lift the bag with my sore shoulder. When I took it out of the packaging I wrapped it around me and found it to be cool.... not hot.
I have been sleeping with this blanket for a week now and have only woken once feeling hot. Keep in mind I am post-menopausal. But I was also waking up every night sweating before I got the weighted blanket. The weight of the blanket helps me to lie still and not toss and turn. I feel like I am sleeping better because of it.
About a month ago I went to a family overnight where I took a sleeping bag. I found the sleeping bag to be quite restrictive being zipped up into that bag. But I also found I slept better.
Some of us just need to be tied down to get a good night's sleep.
I highly recommend a weighted blanket for those with insomnia, anxiety, Restless Legs Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, etc. They are not terribly expensive (under $100).

Yes, I am sleeping slightly better but when it comes to fibromyalgia, no amount of sleep takes away the fatigue that I always feel. That's the unfortunate part. At least I'm not up wandering around the house in the middle of the night.
