The Best of Pat Benatar: #8 "Shadows of the Night" (1982)

A Pat power ballad standard that she belts out. “We’re running with the shadows of the night So baby take my hand, it’ll be all right Surrender all your dreams tonight They’ll come true in the end” There is a similarity to Pat’s repertoire. “In the Heat of the Night.” “Shadows of the Night.” “Promises in the Dark.” Passion and heartbreak. She put them over well. D.L. Bryon originally wrote “Shadows in the Night” for the forgotten 1980 movie “Times Square” (I have seen it) about runaways. The song was rejected. In 1981, it was first recorded by Germany based singer Helen Schneider and then fringe new wave singer Rachel Sweet. Pat recorded it for the “Get Nervous” album and the single was a hit at Billboard #13. “Shadows in the Night” can be heard in the 2005 stage musical “Rock of Ages” and sung by Mary J. Blige in the 2012 movie version.

I'm glad you enjoy the music. I've never heard of the song. It sounded 'dark'.

Another Benatar song like "Hell is for Children" dealing with social issues and a very good one!

Oh! I love Pat Benatar! I've got a couple of her albums but I haven't listened to them in ages! I'll have to dig them out now.
