Do you remember the first thing you ever searched for online?

Nope, I definitely can not remember that. I do remember the days of the encyclopedia brittanica program. That was used for many a history project in school. Before that we went to the library and / or used regular encyclopedia's. I can't recall what the first thing I searched a search engine for was but I have a few guesses. It was either something related to my interests at the time, or something related to school work. DYK that the very first search enginge was called "Archie" (archive). It was created by students of Mcgill University in Canada. The first google search was done in 1998 and was done to show comparison between google (new) and other search engines. Do you remember the first thing you ever searched for? Do you remember the search engine you used? I either used AskJeeves or Dogpile.

I feel like AskJeeves was recommended as a valid search engine for school projects. I don't even think it's still around now.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think it was the one that was set as default on all the school computers.

Netscape Navigator was the first browser I used. Altavista may have actually been the first search engine I used as well. I remember having so many things bookmarked on that browser.

@LadyDuck I use firefox or Opera now. I don't even use chrome. There are a lot of browsers out there now, not all of them are secure.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Netscape was pretty good then they changed their interface and I abandoned it. Later I used Internet Explorer, that I never liked anyway.

What a great thing to try and remember. I don't remember specifically. It would have been something at work (school). Now, I wish I could remember.

We never think about these type things being interesting to tell one day, do we? Technology moves so fast... I wonder if people even remember what their first voice assistant search was? I know I don't.

I was using the internet before myspace was invented. I guess that's showing my age..

I think I've had two different aol email accounts. The one I have now I've had since about 2007. Getting books from amazon is fairly new for me. It was always the library or book stores before that.

I remember first searching online for different actors l liked at the time. It was 1997, I was using Windows 95 and we had dial up. And yes, I have fond memories of the Britannica Encyclopedia from my school days. Not too long ago, I noticed a set in my local library. It was fun to look through them.

'95 was the first windows we had as well! I am not sure if I've ever come across the brittanica encylcopedia's outside of that program. We have a set of encyclopedia's here , but they aren't brittanica. They are also pretty outdated.
