Cracking Crabs in Maryland

The blue crab has many different names such as Jimmies, Callinectes sapidus, beautiful swimmers, channelers, sooks, and she-crabs. Blue crabs live in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay in the state of Maryland. For many generations, the Chesapeake Bay fishermen or watermen have harvested these waters for crabs, oysters, clams, and fish. They work on workboats called skipjacks or use fishing boats. Since so much fresh fish and shellfish are available in Maryland you know you can get crabs by the bushel full in crab houses. These restaurants cover their tables with brown paper and spread out the bushel of crabs giving you knives and mallets to pry them open and enjoy the delicious crab meat. Who likes to eat crabs?

I love crabs, but my favorite are the soft shell crabs, those you eat fried in butter with garlic and parsley. Oh my I am hungry.

I am very cautious eating crabs. One time I ate them. I got an allergy. My ears were swollen including my face. I rushed to the hospital. The nurse gave a med and after a few minutes. I recovered and back to normal.

Crabs are my favorite. We cook them with taro and coconut milk or spicy crab.
