A state holiday tomorrow...

The weekend mood has already set in for me and my daughters. There is a regional public holiday in state of Karnataka to observe 525th birthday of Kanakdasa. Kanakdasa was a soldier who later turned into a great poet, philosopher and musician. He brought a few social reforms through his poems and songs.
He lived a long life of 100 years from 1509-1609. His birthday is observed on 18th day of Kartika month in South Indian Hindu calendar and this year it falls on 15 Nov. So that leads to a long weekend. 
So I can stay a little longer in bed tomorrow morning. So guess I would be up a little longer tonight watching some TV and mylotting.

It's going on good. Staying indoors and finishing few cleaning chores. Today is last day of the long weekend. Today I will step out for grocery shopping.

@Nakitakona We got some needed eggs, bread, cereals and lots of fruits and vegetables. We don't celebrate Christmas as we are Hindu but we do put Christmas tree with decorations. That is the plan for next weekend.

We all love long weekend. Isn't it..
It's Saturday afternoon here. Will have lunch with my family in some time. I am trying to finish a lot of school work for next week and chores too. Want to keep weekdays a little relaxed. I am peeping in here in between whenever I can.

It is good to know the history if it is some brave soldier rather than simply enjoying a holiday on his name. I never had this tendency until I turned an adult and I regret to see that children are kept far from knowing such people who sacrificed way beyond to reform the society. It is good to keep some of their memoirs in our head.

@arunima25 After reading this I had a chit chat with a Native Bangalorean who would sometimes take sarcasm on migrants of being ungrateful to indigenous crowd, I simply asked him about Kanakadas and he could not answer me. I chuckled and educated him proudly narrating him the words that you wrote ... it became a moment today .

I had a good long weekend. Stayed home for most of the time and finished some pending chores. Also could do all my lesson planning.
100 years is a milestone and very few make it.
