Aqua alta: now Venice is in danger.

After a huge fire this year in April that destroyed a great part of Notre Dame de Paris, we are again watching in shock how another pieces of beauty created by mankind could be about to succumb. Now it is water and wind. And Venice is under sea level. At some time, people will blame others and tears will be shed. Now we just have to wait. Let us hope this beautiful city is spared.

Parts of the city ate over 1 and a half meter under sea level.

@MALUSE So true, it seems that all what Venetians want is money. They have always been greedy, I remember how much I paid for a coffee in Piazza San Marco.

@marguicha There seems so little they can do about it. They can't sandbag the city.

Venice always had the problem of acqua alta and it is very common, even at this height id did not happen from a couple of decades. Most of Italy is under water, but Venice is more famous so this is the city that is in the news.

From what I heard in the news, the authorities had not done some repairs needed so that this year´s height did not cause too much damage.

@marguicha YES, as usual, the same that happened in 1966, when also my grandparents got more than 2 meters of water in their home in Modena. The Italian authorities never move a finger to do repairs and then they complain when "natural disasters" happen.

@amitkokiladitya It is the place where Venice was built. But the authorities have to repair some things every year.
