First Day of Rifle Season

Hubby was up at 4 getting ready to go hunting. He donned his sporting gear, got his thermos ready, grabbed his lunch and was off.
Haven't heard from him yet, but hoping I will at some point to hear he has bagged a deer. If not, hunting season isn't over until mid-December, so there will still be time.
There are so many posts this morning of other hunters bragging about deer they have bagged today. Frustrating to see, but I am happy for them.
Some people hunt for that trophy deer, my husband hunts for meat to fill our freezer.
Hunting also helps to keep the deer population under control. If there wasn't a hunting season, the deer would overpopulate and many starve because of lack of food. Or the trees in our forests get damaged by the deer and that is another problem to deal with.
I wish all hunters a safe hunt.

We have a long hunting season, so if he doesn't get one today, there is plenty of time. Season ends mid-December.

@JudyEv He has had a few years when he got nothing to show for his efforts. Hoping this year isn't the case.

Nothing yet. I can't imagine sitting still in the cold for such a long period of time. I would stiffen up and not be able to walk.

@TiarasOceanView no deer yet. He just sent me a message that he was in the truck thawing the icicles off his beard. LOL

He came close to getting one a few days ago, but the shot wasn't clear. He will not just shoot willy nilly at an animal. It risks injuring the animal so it will suffer and even more important, could miss the mark and cause harm to another hunter or worse.
