Some things defy explanation. You can do nothing but shake your head and wonder, as Slim Pickens said in Blazing Saddles, “What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?????” See the sign? I took that in a state park this afternoon. Nineteen miles an hour. What, a Steely Dan fan??? Or Paul Hardcastle?? Couldn’t just make it an even 20 MPH, huh.... Guess it was a prime number fan.

In Scotland, many of the small roads are single lane with pull-offs every so often in case you meet a car coming in the opposite direction. There are often signs saying how far to the next pull-off but they say stuff like 878 metres or 236 metres. It struck us as funny.

I know, as if someone will get out and measure, then write a protest letter: “that pull-off was 12.3 meters closer than the sign said!”

That's unusual...maybe it is purposely made so people's attention will be personified, wondering about the unusual number to go to the speed limit?

The other thing I thought of was they had to be custom-ordered, so maybe whoever came up with 19 MPH has a buddy in the sign-making business.

Of course it’s in Kentucky. In a place called Big Bone Lick. You’re very welcome.

@FourWalls Indeed, very neat. I think that is called freedom. What my ancestors taught me anyway.

I do not recall ever seeing a sign like this that did not have a zero or a five in it. Hmm. This is indeed very strange.

I’ve seen them lower than that. One at the USS Alabama had the speed limit at seven MPH. Maybe they have a contract with people who print the signs and are trying to throw some business their way.

@FourWalls That would seem the only logical explanation. I mean, how am I supposed to even monitor that? lol

@DocAndersen Poor guy lost his license, though. BTW, here’s Joe explaining the song. Love the “duh!” when he gets to that line.
Joe Walsh performs "Life's Been Good" spoken word version live at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA. Joe Walsh's new album, Analog Man will be available J...
