Short Story: The totally evil life of a bad man? Can anyone really be that totally bad?

Jack Thompson, known as Thomo, to his mates, was a pretty evil man.
Jack tried to cheat his way through life, in whatever way, he could do so.
Jack had no inclination to do what is right.
Jack just wanted to do what brought him the greatest satisfaction, and fulfillment, in monetary ways, self-satisfying ways, or lustful ways too.
Jack blended well into society in his doing this, as most people are pretty much the same as him, me-first type of people.
Jack lived a long life, despite his bad habits of smoking, drinking, cursing, and fleecing/cheating others so badly, that he was often involved in fights, that sometimes left him far worse off for wear than his opponents were.
This was because Jack was only a small man, 5 feet, four inches, in his stocking feet, but, never the less, he was a bad parcel of humanity, in all of this small package.
When Jack was on his deathbed, the local vicar came to see him, at his (Jack's) wife's request.
He said to Jack,
"Good serves evil by trying to reform it to be like itself, but evil serves nothing but itself. We should live such a life of service to others, not a selfish one, spent, just in the serving, of ourselves."
"Why haven't you served others, Jack, in at least some good way in your long life?"
the old Vicar, then asked Jack.
Jack smiled, and died.
He didn't want to do anything good, even now, at the time of his death.
Can evil be really this bad in someone? Is anyone that totally bad?
Did Jack have any good in him at all?
Why are both good and evil even existing, are they both needed?
Does good need evil to set lessons for it to draw the best out of itself, as some religions claim?
Is evil serving any purpose for God?
Why would God use evil like that, as, wouldn't his doing that, make him evil too?
What do you think about these types of questions?

Is there such a thing as a totally evil man?

Does evil exist? No doubt! Why does evil exist? It exists because we have free will. Will it exist forever? The choice yes but one day justice will be quick. (my thoughts)

@innertalks My thoughts at this time.
If we have no choice then what would we be? Prisoners? Slaves? Rocks? By having a choice then we are a very special creation. We have a choice whether we cooperate with God or not. When we don't cooperate with God then we cause problems for the whole universe and so we will not be allowed to continue to exist because it would be a torture to allow us to do whatever we want. ( I hope you can catch what I'm trying to say)
Yes, I think that God had to create the possibility but if we do evil things then evil is created by those that do it.

@1hopefulman I agree with what you have said there, Felix.
God creates persons of substance that can be mini gods of themselves, or sons of his, but he expects to remain their father, so to speak, and not a stranger, which sin creates of them to him, and to themselves too.

I think you hit the nail on the head there Felix.
Yes, we have the choice to choose either good or evil, because of our free will, granted to us by God.
But why does God allow the possibility of evil, with all of its different levels to keep existing?
Are we the ones who created evil then, or did God create the possibility of evil in his creation, as a necessary part of him granting them free will?

Yes,you can be the pure evil, the best and fastest way is joining the Communist Party, and believing in the Marxism. When you become the Communist, you will volunteer to rat your families out and slaughter your parents or brother or sister for devoting to the Communist Organization and keeping the secret for any inhuman crime of Communist Party.
Surely, you will get the good things, you can rape the young girls, you can slaughter everyone who doesn't submit to you,you can do nothing but still live like a king, and if you become the General Secretary like Stalin, you can be the God,and angels will be your sexy slave
Communist Party is a paradise for those satan's followers, and those political bandits

You might be right, but even someone like Adolph Hitler, had a dog, who he liked, and which liked him too.
And yet, it is said that he killed his dog, when testing the strength of some cyanide tablets on him.
Hitler had other dogs as pets during his lifetime too. Maybe there was still a splinter of good left in his otherwise totally rotted log of wood then too.
Maybe he wasn't totally evil then, or was he??

@innertalks Hitler is not a pure evil man,Comparing with Mao or Stalin,he's a great person,he didn't build the harem to rape the young girls,he never slaughtered those generals who helped him to rule the Germany,he never massacred Aryan people, and he still had some reason
If you really knew the history of Communist party and see what they're doing in Hongkong,or in Tian'an men Massacre, you will know what the pure evil is

@choijungeun It's sort of funny that people label this type of total evil as pure evil. There is nothing pure about it, but I guess it means that there is only evil, and nothing else too in it, only evilness.
Yes, some of the stories that reach us here in Australia seem to be unbelievable at times. Things like harvesting human organs, putting plastic in rice, and other atrocities.
Maybe, you are right, pure evil does exist.
Pure love exists, and God is that love, and God is everywhere, but everywhere where people choose non-love or evil, this is pure evil, in that there is no light in that choice, only darkness.

I have been wondering about this lately. I recently had to deal with a woman who seems to be truly evil. She has damaged the lives of several people, has what I call "delusions of adequacy," and is completely unremorseful for what she has done. But there HAS to be a back story. She must have suffered some kind of abuse (or neglect) to become this way. I TRY to forgive her. But it is difficult. By the way, I recognized Hemingway by his haircut, the first thing I saw.

@innertalks I am a developmental psychologist. I have worked with the children of murderers and other naughty people. I have found that if you bring someone up with love, attention, and empathy, regardless of their "genes," they can become lovely people. I WANT to believe that evil people were just severely hurt somewhere along the way.

@innertalks Hemingway is one of my favorite authors because he writes in short, straightforward sentences. He was trained as a journalist, and it shows in his writing. Your post was not too long. Not too much fluff. I liked that.

Yes, it was both a good and a bad idea to use "Hemingway" here as the character in my story. It certainly brought viewers to my discussion. Him, being such a great writer, I am sure would not have been too upset by my using his caricature, like that.
Yes, there must usually be such a back story, I would agree too. We could not say that an innocent baby was already born evil like that, could we?

Some just go overboard with their selfishness and hedonistic lifestyle and cannot retract.
In a way, they are not hypocrites despite their evil pursuits to show remorse without really meaning it.
So Jack went the way he lived all his life with head held high! siva

Yes, I think someone said that they would prefer that someone choose one side, or the other, than just sit on the fence, all of their lives.
This might all be very good in theory, but the evil one does a lot more damage to the world than a fence sitter ever could. All they might do is to destroy their own fence over time.

They are questions for people to think about. I feel that there are very good people in the world and also very bad. He was not a good person, but, there have been those more evil than him in this world and some are gone and others stil remain.

Yes, there are degrees, and a scale going between good and evil, from totally bad, to totally good. The Christian Bible claims that only God is totally good, everything else has been tarred by some blackness of sin, or badness in some ways. We all have a good and a bad side in us then, but we have the freedom of choice to decide which side to embrace more.
God does not seem to have this choice too, if he is totally good.
In this way, then, God created us differently than himself. He wanted us to decide what is good or bad, whereas he always knows it. God wants us to grow consciously into that wisdom of choice that operating from unconditional love can bring to us.

In most cases we have control over our actions when choosing good or evil. Taking an example from Cinema in Star Wars; Darth Vader chose the evil temptation of the "Dark Side" while Obi-Wan Kenobi chose the good of the 'Force." We can be drawn to evil things but we have the will to resist it and ultimately make the right choices. Perhaps those with a mental illness would be an example of someone who does an evil act without the comprehension of what they did...

If we do have such a choice, this would infer then too, that at least at some level, we must be aware of the difference between good and evil.
Where does this innate, inbuilt knowing come from then?
Does everyone have access to this knowing, or are some people, so unaware and unconscious, that they can not connect to this knowing, within themselves?
Choice, and responsibility for our making of that choice then, to my mind, must be also linked into our awareness, and consciousness levels, or in short, to our spiritual, social, personal, emotional, and mental development too.
This would mean, then, that we can only make an informed choice if we have the ability to make it.
More consciously developed people, more people in touch with love, and the inner and outer truths carried by and in that love, can make better informed, more conscious decisions, linked into the greater truth of all that is.
