The royals through history sure had some lives. I would even call their lives wild and crazy. I cannot imagine it but Queen Isabella of France married King Edward II of England in 1308 and she was only 12 years old.
Their marriage became strained when Edward showed his obsession with male favorites. What was a queen to do? Isabella took a lover Roger Mortimer and with him plotted a coup against her husband.
Soon Edward found himself imprisoned and died under mysterious circumstances in 1327. No one is sure what caused his death but there were rumors that his dear wife ordered him to have a red hot poker stuck up where the sun never shines. Ah, those crazy royals.

I remember watching a documentary on this not too long ago. If memory serves, she had to flee to France for awhile before she met Roger Mortimer and came back to imprison him.
Maybe I am getting my history mixed up, but well, those royals were crazy back then.
Of course, if she truly had this done to the King, I can't say as I blame her. She was heavily suppressed (as was the time) and on top of that her own husband preferred his closest confidant, whom was also his lover.

@RasmaSandra Yes, they do. 12 years old was way too young, she was just a girl!
Of course, royal women were pawns in the man's game of chess unfortunately.
