"A Christmas Story" was released in 1983 and is an American Christmas comedy. It's shown multiple times during the holiday season and is considered one of the best Christmas movies. It took in $20.6 million at the box office against a budget of $3.3 million.
CAST
Peter Billingsley - Ralphie Parker
Ian Petrella - Randy Parker
Melinda Dillon - Mrs. Parker
Darren McGavin - Mr. Parker (The Old Man)
Scott Schwartz - Flick
R. D. Robb - Schwartz
Zack Ward - Scut Farkus
Set in the 1940s, Ralphie Parker is a 9-year-old boy living in Hohman, Indiana on Cleveland Street. His older self (voice of Jean Shepherd) narrates his adventures and thoughts in the weeks before Christmas. As Ralphie looks into a display window of a local store, he spots an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle with a compass in the stock and "this thing which tells time" (a sundial)...and he wants one!
If you want to know what happens, you'll have to watch the movie. It covers the trials and tribulations that Ralphie goes through to try and get this air rifle for Christmas. All his hinting does is solicit a reaction from his mother: "You'll shoot your eye out!" This movie is extra special to me because the external shots of the house and department store external and internal shots were filmed in Cleveland, Ohio. The film is funny and nostalgic. This is a must-see Christmas movie; and I highly recommend it.
This movie is rated PG.

Jean Shepard, the author of the book that became this movie. Wrote about the area around Gary Indiana. He is one of my favorite authors.
