I am getting slightly frustrated

Good Morning.
The surge protector or outlet nearest my bed is on the fritz I think. I know that it works because I tested it with a string of lights, but it seems that it selectively works. I've checked to ensure that the plugs are securely in the surge protector and that the surge protector is snuggly in the wall.
It could also be that the outlet on the wall is on the fritz, but I think it's more likely the surge protector which is several decades old now. My laptop loses charge because of this, even though it's technically plugged into the wall.
So it looks like I'll be getting a new surge protector, but I think that will have to wait because I want to get a new bookcase and do some re-arranging before I do anything else. I am seriously considering moving my bed to the opposite wall.
Do you rearrange your living spaces?

If it were me, I would be buying a new surge protector. Would hate to hear that it shorted and caused a fire for you. Better to be safe than sorry.
Just rolled my eyes about rearranging my living space. I am about to do that with my living room today. Not looking forward to it at all.

I have only one thing plugged into the surge protector at the moment, but I think I will take your advice and retire it altogether. I can plug my laptop directly into the wall, but it won't be comfortable for me when working on it. I will just have to do it while I am not using it.
I enjoy rearranging things, well to a certain extent. I like when I have finished, and i like planning it. I used to enjoy the process of actually moving the items but not so much anymore. I hope your living room rearrangement doesnt take too long. Is this so that you can fit a tree in?

@ScribbledAdNauseum our place is so small that most of the rearranging is just shifting things to a different spot. I have the tree going up this weekend and need to make room for that. Plus my grandson is coming to stay for a while. Hoping for a long time, but that remains to be seen.

@ElusiveButterfly We have a lot of space here but also a lot of clutter. I can only encourage so much before I give up and just worry about my own things.
I do hope he will stay for a few weeks atleast.

Not really, because I like the way it is now.

I like to rearrange things as much as I can. Makes it seem fresh without buying anything new.

Yes, I've already stopped using the surge protector. I am plugging my laptop directly into the wall for now. I will look for a new one on my next shopping trip.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I did the same when my surge protector had a problem.

To be honest our house is so small there's only really one place everything can go so there's not much opportunity to rearrange.
Just as well really. I hate change and my wife was always swapping things around when we lived in a bigger house.

Ah, I see! So, honestly you were relieved when you relocated to a smaller place.
I love changing things up in my living space, but resist change otherwise.

@WorDazza True, but then it can also feel more cluttered. So you win some, you lose some.

@ScribbledAdNauseum A smaller place takes far less time to clean too.

I will second what @ElusiveButterfly said, get a new surge protector and quit using it right now. You never know if it will short out and you do not want that. Not only are you taking a chance with damaging whatever is plugged into it but you are taking a chance of an electrical fire.
As for rearranging my living space. Yea, I do that. I have changed my bedroom around 4 times since moving into this place in March and have rearranged the living room twice. I think the bedroom is back to the same way I started at.

Yes, as soon as she said that I unplugged it from the wall and plugged my laptop directly into the wall.
I've rearranged my bedroom two or three times since being here, and the living room once or twice. I still have one way I can arrange the bedroom that will be completely different than what it once was.

@Bensen32 I stood in the doorway of my bedroom yesterday and visualized how I want everything to be done. There are a few pieces of furniture that I just can't move. One whole piece of furniture that serves no purpose but it would require me moving a bunch of stuff to get it out.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Good move on unplugging it. Better to be safe than sorry.
Yea, I think I have run out of ways to set up the bedroom.

I just organize things but not totally rearrange things as often except when I have any additions.

Oh i see. So you might re-organize a movie or book collection, or maybe place photos in different areas, but as far as furniture, it stays where you set it?

@ScribbledAdNauseum yes most of the time, the books are kept in another room.

Do you have somewhere else you can plug it in until you can get a new one?

I will just have to plug it directly into the wall. The other day I moved my phone charger to another outlet because it wasn't charging correctly. I've checked the wall plug and it's working fine, so it's got to be the surge protector. My room has an outlet on each wall, but they are all sort of blocked. That's one reason why I want to rearrange things.

How long does a surge protector suppose to last? I have one that my desk computer and the rest of the stuff is plugged into. My is also very old. I do like to re-arrange things every once in a while. I used to change my living room around, but now I have a sectional sofa which doesn't fit anywhere except for where it's at. That's the thing I hate about them.

I am not quite sure how long they last, but I feel like they are guaranteed for atleast ten years.
I've considered a sectional sofa here as well but, yeah, we wouldn't really be able to move it once we placed it in.
I have changed the living around once or twice but now it seems as if it's been taken over by another family member and so we don't really have a lot of room to move about.

@JustBhem Yes, the smaller the room the less space and the more mess. There was a house I lived in with my mom and dad many years ago. I had the smallest room and it was truly small. I could fit a bed and a dresser in the room, but anything else just made the room cluttered.

Mine just isn't working for me anymore. I should take a few minutes each day to get rid of some stuff, and perhaps start to move some other stuff.

@Nakitakona Oh okay, thank you for the clarification.
I will need to deal with things one by one as well. I have a group of photos in frames that are of me. I do not know what to do with them and havent' done anything with them in years. I suppose I need to find some 8 x 10 sleeves to put these photos in.

@ScribbledAdNauseum There are many things inside the room. We have to deal with them one by one especially the clothes.
